Permanent makeup has many advantages. However, rehabilitation will not be without some inconveniences. Proper skin care during the healing period will ensure a high-quality result. With proper care, the skin may only show peeling or peeling of the film. But sometimes, if the care rules are not followed, crusts may appear on the pigmented area. Why does a scab form and is it possible to regenerate the skin without it occurring? How many days does it take for the crust to go off after tattooing eyebrows, lips and eyelids? Qualified masters of our studio will answer these questions.
Why do crusts appear?
The formation of a crust after permanent makeup of eyebrows, lips, eyelids is a completely natural reaction of the body, which is an important part of regeneration.
During tattooing, the artist pierces the skin with a thin needle and injects pigment through it. The needle damages the epidermis, blood vessels, and connective tissues. In response, the skin reacts with natural protective processes, which manifest themselves in the form of inflammation, redness, pain, and swelling. At the same time, a small amount of blood and lymph is released onto the damaged skin. It is they who form the film, crusts or scabs that protect the skin during its recovery.
Crusts have an extremely negative effect on the results of permanent eyebrow makeup. The same applies to lip and eyelid tattooing. The subsequent removal of the scab distorts the result of the master’s work, leading to uneven distribution of pigment, the formation of white spots and unclear contours. During the correction, a competent specialist will analyze the situation and correct the shortcomings. However, it is much better to prevent the formation of a dense scab with proper care.
Why do you need eyebrow tattoo correction?
Tattoo correction is a necessary procedure that is performed a month after the injection of coloring pigment with a needle, that is, as soon as the skin has recovered, when the shade of the eyebrows has become a little lighter. You should not miss the clarification period. Otherwise, you will have to carry out the full tattoo procedure again, and not correct it. With the help of correction, the master brings the work to an ideal state:
- fills with dye the gaps that appeared for one reason or another;
- adjusts the shade that could not be achieved after the first session;
- changes the contour and size of the tattoo, for example, makes the ends of the eyebrows clearer.
The fashion for tattooing appeared at the end of the twentieth century, and the first to use permanent makeup were the stars. His homeland is Taiwan. It was here that paints and equipment for applying them appeared.
It should be noted that eyebrow tattoo correction is mandatory! When the skin heals, the crusts will fall off, places where the color has applied unevenly will be visible, and individual areas are colored differently. And the master will correct all these shortcomings.
With the help of correction, the artist brings the tattoo to perfect condition.
The client needs to take into account that the selected tone will differ when the dye is injected into the skin. This is easily explained by the properties of the skin, nutrition, cosmetics and soap that you use. Even your lifestyle affects the color of your eyebrows.
Stages of skin healing after permanent makeup
The average stages of skin healing and restoration by day are as follows:
- 1 day. There is a slight swelling, edema, redness, and minor pain. In some cases, the discharge of ichor is noticeable. The pigment is bright and rich, the contour is clear and neat. If there is swelling, you can apply cold or take allergy pills - they relieve the swelling.
- 2-3 days. The severity of swelling and redness is reduced. If the care did not comply with the recommendations of the master, crusts will appear at the site where the tattoo was applied to the lips, eyebrows or eyelids. The color darkens and acquires an even more pronounced shade.
- 4-5 days. Pain and swelling disappear completely. The top layer in place of permanent makeup begins to come off. If you fully adhere to the specialist’s instructions, after tattooing the eyebrows and other areas there will be no crusts coming off, as they simply will not form. Instead, a thin layer of dermis will come off. The pigment brightens significantly.
What happens after the first session?
- Swelling appears immediately after the procedure.
- In the first hour after the session, pulsation and moderate pain may be felt at the site of pigment injection as the effect of the anesthetic cream wears off.
- After 2 hours, the discomfort disappears, but the swelling remains.
- Then healing occurs within a week.
- The first days the tattoo is bright, but don’t be afraid - the makeup will take on a calmer and more natural color when the pigment takes root.
When do the scabs come off after tattooing?
It is impossible to say exactly how long the crusts last after tattooing the eyebrows, lips and eyelids. The timing will be different for each facial zone. The scab will cover the damaged area and prevent infections for several days. The period of removal of the crusts also depends on age, immunity, hormonal levels, metabolic rate and other factors.
However, there are indicative indicators. So, after lip tattooing, peeling stops after 7-10 days. After tattooing, it will take about 3-5 days to brow, when the films come off. Restoration of the skin in the eyelid area takes about 4-5 days. At the same time, it takes about 3 weeks for complete regeneration of any zone.
There is no need to worry if the pigment lightens and becomes uneven after the crusts come off after permanent makeup on the eyebrows, lips or eyelids. Often about 40% of the shade comes out. The pigment will appear over the next 2-3 weeks and become more pronounced. During the correction, the specialist will eliminate imperfections and select the appropriate color saturation.
Preparing for the session
At the preliminary consultation, the master draws the shape of the eyebrows with a pencil and gives general recommendations for preparation.
The client reports about his features, for example:
- presence of allergies;
- constant use of medications;
- lactation period;
- high blood pressure.
Based on individual characteristics, the master gives additional recommendations and determines the date of tattooing.
At least 2 weeks before the PM procedure, it is prohibited to adjust the shape of the eyebrows, dye or scrub them.
Preparation is associated with dietary restrictions, because... taking vasodilating products provokes pigment leaching.
2 days before the permanent eyebrow makeup procedure, you should not consume:
- coffee;
- energetic drinks;
- seafood;
- alcohol.
If you took medications the day before, you must inform the doctor about this.
Experts recommend carrying out the procedure in the middle of the menstrual cycle.
Why you can’t peel off scabs after tattooing
Removal of scabs and peelings should only occur naturally. You cannot peel off the crusts yourself. This will ruin your appearance and harm your health.
So why can’t you peel off the crusts after tattooing your eyebrows, lips and eyelids? Main reasons:
- there is a possibility of infection of the damaged skin area;
- pain syndrome will increase;
- a scar or scar may appear;
- the healing process will last;
- the body will begin to actively restore the damaged area, removing pigment from the epidermis along with the ichor;
- the color will become uneven, the shade will lighten excessively, and white spots will appear.
If the client has accidentally torn off the crust after tattooing, for example, with jewelry or clothing, the technicians recommend treating the area with an antiseptic and continuing to care for the skin according to the prescribed regimen.
In what cases should you consult a dermatologist or tattoo artist?
The swelling usually goes away in the first few days and is not accompanied by redness and itching at the same time. If your situation is the opposite, you need to consult a doctor. If you have had your eyelids tattooed, then the dangerous symptoms are: conjunctivitis, severe irritation, stye.
After tattooing, an allergy to the pigment may occur. Its symptoms: swelling for more than 5 days, prolonged redness, burning, itching (more than 7 days), dense swelling in the affected area.
Other symptoms that should alert you and require consultation with a specialist: an increase rather than a decrease in swelling, suppuration, general weakness, nausea, dizziness, rhinitis, nasal congestion. Choose only proven permanent makeup studios. To avoid complications.
How to take care of your skin so that crusts do not appear after tattooing
Proper care will help avoid the appearance of crusts after tattooing the eyebrows and other facial areas. It is necessary to strictly adhere to the following scheme of care procedures:
- Wash your face morning and evening with cool water and antibacterial soap. Gently blot the area with a paper towel or let it dry on its own.
- Treat dried skin with Chlorhexedine or Miramistin.
- Apply Dexpanthenol ointment to the dry area. It is ointment, because the cream does not provide proper nutrition and hydration to the skin. You can also use Depanthenol, Bepanten or Pnetnol-Teva.
- If excessive dryness appears in the area of permanent makeup, for example, after sleep, you need to moisturize the area with cosmetic Vaseline and leave the product on the skin for 30 minutes. Or simply use ointment only.
Such procedures must be performed within 7-10 days. During the first four days, the ointment should be applied every 2-3 hours. Afterwards, you can reduce the number of treatments to 3-4 times a day and use the product for about 4-6 more days.
It is forbidden to steam the skin, comb the area, rub with a towel, cotton wool or napkins, wipe the area with peroxide, solutions containing alcohol and other drugs that were not prescribed by a specialist. You should also refrain from visiting the bathhouse, sauna, swimming pool, solarium, and beach. If all the rules are followed, the dermis will quickly recover, and the aesthetic result will please you for 2-5 years.
How to correct the lowering of the tattoo along with the facial tissues?
Tattoo sagging often occurs as a result of tissue aging. To prevent the development of this defect, it is recommended to use specialized anti-aging creams in a timely manner. If aging is advanced and the permanent tattoo has sagged, then correction requires the use of laser correction.
It is recommended to select a specialist based on the points described above.
Permanent makeup allows you to adjust the desired shape and color of eyebrows for a long time, without the need to use daily cosmetics.
When choosing this procedure, it is important to choose the right specialist, as well as follow the rules of skin care during the recovery period. This will avoid the development of defects and preserve the result for up to 5 years. To maintain the results for a long time, it is important to carry out tattoo correction in a timely manner.

Why can't everything be done in one session?
If we talk about correction, which is carried out during a multi-stage service of applying a pigmenting agent to the eyebrow, not all girls clearly understand the need for a cosmetic procedure.
A master can do all the work in one woman’s visit to the salon, but this is not always advisable. Gradually, the introduction of the dye contributes to a uniform distribution of color across the eyebrow, as well as a high quality of the service result.
If you tattoo your eyebrows over several visits, the effect usually lasts longer, and the likelihood of negative consequences reflected in the appearance due to the fault of the specialist is reduced. If the master offers you to carry out a tattoo in several stages, accept the offer, because this way the client will be able to carry out the technique more competently. However, this case also has a disadvantage - after each session, the complex undergoes a recovery period, during which it is necessary to provide care for damaged skin.
