The skin on the face is very delicate and requires constant, and most importantly, proper care. This is especially necessary with age, when it loses its elasticity, becomes more demanding, and the first wrinkles appear. In addition to cosmetics, special massagers are used for facial care. Today we will talk about what they are and how they are useful, as well as what you should pay attention to when using them.
Benefits of facial massage using a massager
Facial massage solves several problems.
- Improves blood circulation
, saturating skin cells with oxygen. - Accelerates metabolism
in the layers of the skin. - Evens out color
, thereby lightening age spots. - Cleanses pores
and regulates the functioning of sebaceous glands, reduces inflammation and acne. - Improves the tone of
facial muscles, making its shape more expressive, reduces wrinkles and prevents the appearance of new ones.
Massagers can be simple mechanical, ultrasonic and even microcurrent. They allow you to carry out procedures that are not inferior to those in the salon. Let's take a closer look at them.
Types of facial massagers
Mechanical
Their work is based on the principle of mechanical action on different layers of the skin.
The impact can be of several types: pressure, rolling, tingling, vibration or various combinations thereof. These are, as a rule, hand massagers made of different materials: wood, silicone, glass, jade.
Vacuum
These massagers are used to combat age-related skin changes (wrinkles, loss of tone and sagging) and deep cleansing. Vacuum attachments are used to cleanse the facial skin, which will help in the fight against deep impurities and blackheads. Therefore, in a sense, vacuum devices are more about cleaning. However, the vacuum device simultaneously has a stimulating, toning and anti-aging effect on the skin.
- Blood flow and lymph flow accelerate
, metabolism and metabolism in the inner layers of the skin accelerates. The skin becomes elastic and smooth again. - Cell restoration accelerates
, making post-acne and pigmentation go away faster, and collagen begins to be actively produced.
Many models of vacuum massagers have several attachments that can be used not only on the face, but also on the body. After each use, the nozzles must be washed thoroughly, because the contents of the pores remain inside them.

Ultrasonic
The work of ultrasonic massagers is based on the effect of ultrasonic waves on the upper layers of the skin. Massage with this device allows you to:
- cleanse the skin more thoroughly and more deeply from impurities, sebum, remove dead epidermal cells, narrow pores;
- maximize the penetration of beneficial substances from cosmetic preparations into the deep layers of the skin;
- prolong the effect of the procedure by creating a supply of nutrients in the layers of the skin.
Ultrasound, like vacuum, also cleans the skin. But besides this, during the procedures its tone increases, unevenness is smoothed out and collagen is produced, which makes the skin denser and more elastic.

Most ultrasonic massagers can be used on both the face and body (some require special attachments).
Microcurrent
Most often used in skin care with noticeable age-related changes. The operating principle of a microcurrent massager is based on stimulating skin cells with electrical impulses of varying intensity (depending on the problem).
Microcurrent therapy using low frequency currents:
- restores all layers of the skin;
- normalizes blood microcirculation and lymph flow;
- relaxes facial muscles;
- enhances lymph flow and blood supply;
- improves metabolic processes in skin cells.
All this helps to solve the problems of age spots, post-acne marks, acne, correct wrinkles and facial contours, restore elasticity and density to the skin, remove swelling and sagging.
As a result of exposure to microcurrents, the production of your own collagen and elastin is stimulated, which reduces the depth of wrinkles, restores elasticity and tone to the skin, rejuvenating it from the inside. Microcurrents also promote better penetration of cosmetics into the deeper layers of the skin, stimulate metabolism and tone muscles.

Multifunctional massagers
Today, many massagers combine several types of effects. For example - mechanical, infrared and microcurrent. This helps to achieve maximum results for a long time and make care procedures more convenient.
Vibration massage.
Improves blood circulation, metabolism, has a drainage effect.
Electrical stimulation (EMS).
Strengthens facial muscles through short pulse current. Muscles contract, imitating movements, and thus tighten, and those that are too tense, on the contrary, relax.
Microcurrents.
As we said above, this regime restores all layers of the skin and activates metabolic processes.
Chromotherapy.
It works using light rays of different colors: red (formation of young collagen, acceleration of regeneration), yellow (drainage effect, cleansing of toxins), purple (antibacterial and soothing effect).
Infrared action or RF lifting.
Based on heating the skin with infrared radiation. Stimulates facial muscles and improves blood circulation. As a result, the facial skin smoothes out, becomes more elastic and smooth, and wrinkles are reduced. Infrared massage is also prescribed for various injuries for their rapid healing.

GALVANIC FACIAL CLEANING aka disincrustation...pros and cons
As you know, 75% of procedures performed by cosmetologists are hygienic facial cleansing procedures. This procedure itself is done in various ways, such as steaming and squeezing, bridle scrubbing, and chemical methods. All clients, for the most part, consider this procedure to be painful and require a day at home.
I will tell you my own experience as I do:
so I'm currently working with Christina cosmetics (but also developing my own line)
1. cleansing with soap, gel, foam... whatever.
2.scarab or gomage scrub.
3. exfoliation (a mixture of glycolic, lactic and salicylic acid).
4. Warming agent (based on camphor, horseradish pepper extracts and others).
5. directly galvanic clean in an alkaline solution (a special disinfectant lotion is prepared), then the passive electrode is either a metal rod that is in the patient’s hand, or an appropriately moistened plate located on the back or other part of the patient’s body near the area where it is performed disincrustation. Such an electrode is connected to the positive pole, and any electrode wrapped in cotton wool or gauze soaked in a disincrustation solution can be used as an active electrode. The active electrode is connected to the negative pole. When using a desincrustation machine, you can use a roller electrode with a sponge material moistened with a desincrustation solution for approximately 7 minutes.
what happens next: galvanic currents are able to attract ions. In this case, the negative electrode attracts positive ions, which leads to the formation of alkalis such as sodium hydroxide through a process called “hydrolysis.” The resulting sodium hydroxide reacts with the fatty acids in the secretions and converts them into soap. Soap dissolves in water and is easily removed from the surface of the skin, which achieves deep cleansing of oily areas of the skin. Next, swap the electrodes (the polarity of the electrodes changes to restore the acid-base balance and close the pores) for 2 minutes.
AFTER THIS, WASH YOUR FACE AND TREAT WITH ACID LOTION!!!!!
6 and 7 different disinfectants (not peroxide, alcohol and chlorhexidine).
8. Soothing and regenerating mask.
All
Let's discuss this process and come to an opinion about the pros and cons.
How to use a massager correctly
All massagers have general rules that must be followed if you want to get noticeable and quick results.
Read the instructions
before use. Each model has its own characteristics that can affect the result. Carefully read the recommendations and procedure diagram before starting it.
After this, prepare the skin for massage
.
- Completely remove makeup from your face, both decorative and skincare.
- Wash your skin thoroughly.
- Steam your face.
- Apply cream or special cosmetics for a specific type of massager (except vacuum - for it the skin must be clean).
Type of massager | Cosmetics |
Mechanical | Lotion Desincrustant |
Vacuum | Skin must be clean |
Ultrasonic | Ultraclean control Ultraclean sense |
Microcurrent | Active facial gel with caviar extract |
Multifunctional | Contact gel for RF correction Active facial gel with caviar extract for EMS |
Follow the sequence of movements
during the massage - chaotic movements will not give the desired effect. Guide the massager according to the instructions. Movements should be smooth without putting too much pressure on the skin.
There is a pattern of massage movements that is suitable for any device:
- The first movement occurs in the direction from the chin to each ear in turn.
- The next one is from the lower lip to the ear along the cheekbones.
- Next - from the right temple to the nose, from the nose to the left temple.
- Then move from the middle of the forehead to each temple in turn.
- Afterwards, from the inner corners of the eyes to the temples and back.
- The last movement is to treat the sinuses.
The duration of one procedure usually does not exceed 10–15 minutes.
It is best to massage a few hours before bedtime - in the evening and at night the skin recovers better and more actively.
How often can I use it?
Facial massage with a massager does not need to be done too often. 3 times a week is enough. On average, it is recommended to spend 1 minute on each area of the face. The main thing is not to overdo it, follow the recommendations and carry out the procedures regularly. This way you will notice the result faster.
Electroplating for dummies using improvised means: part 1. Galvanic installation
This master class was written to find out how interesting the process of metal electroplating is to the public. There are two approaches to the matter: you can spend a lot of time and little money, or you can do the opposite. The idea of the master class is to spend as little money as possible on materials and tools, literally to assemble everything from what you have at home. The education of a physics department and the work-starved brain of a young mother on maternity leave left me no choice - I started reinventing the wheel, although I couldn’t find a detailed description “for dummies” on the Internet (which I decided to fix). This time I will describe only the very beginning - assembling the circuit of the galvanic installation. If this turns out to be interesting, in the next master classes I will describe in detail all the remaining stages. It turned out to be a “multiple book,” as they say on the Internet now, but I wanted it to be clear.
So, we set out to copper plate something. For me it was a skeletonized leaf.
To do this you need:
1. assemble the installation,
2. prepare electrolyte
3. Apply a conductive layer to the sample
4. carry out the galvanization process itself.
Each of these stages has its own difficulties. So, installation. In order to quickly assemble the installation, we will need, firstly: a car rectifier (the kind of thing for charging a car battery). It can be replaced by charging from an old phone or any other low-power device, but this is somewhat more complicated (I will explain later). copper wire or copper wire. The second is much more preferable: current must flow through the wire, and copper wire in skeins is covered with a special film, until you burn it - you can’t pick it up. And you can be sure of the wire that you removed from the insulation. You can cut off the cord and plug from some broken appliance that was not thrown away in time, or take some piece that was lying around. Or buy a wire at any auto or hardware store. The wire needed is different. thick (about 1-2mm) to create a rod for hanging objects in a galvanic bath, thin - to hang objects (leaf) by the rod.
Thirdly, a small light bulb and a pair of alligator clips (optional). We will need this to control and reduce the current.
Fourthly, a plastic bowl, which we will proudly call the “galvanic bath.” Any container will do, such that it can accommodate everything that you plan to coat with copper (one at a time, of course ). I bought a container for bulk products at a household goods store for 60 rubles. You can take a glass jar.. The main thing is that it does not get corroded by the electrolyte!
Fifthly, a copper plate, or even better, two. I found mine at the dacha in a barn. If there is no plate, copper wire/wire is suitable as a temporary solution. Take any suitable thick plastic and tightly wrap it with wire to the depth of your container. But, as a permanent option, this is only suitable for very thick wire - 2 mm or more. A thin wire will be corroded by electrolyte in a week or two. In the container, under the electrolyte layer, you will not see thinning and rupture, and you will sadly wonder where the current went and why nothing works..
Now, in order to understand what we are doing, we will describe the operating principle of our installation (see diagram). Forgive me for such a drawing, I do MK at night, after putting the child to bed.. The task is this: current should flow through the electrolyte to our leaf. The current is created by copper ions. They, creating a current in the solution, tend to the sample (leaf), settle on it, forming a thin and durable layer of atomic copper. From school physics we remember (or take our word for it ) that current flows from plus to minus. This means that if you apply a plus to the copper plate and a minus to the leaf, then current will flow through the electrolyte from the copper plate to the leaf, and everything will work. In the diagram, IP is the power source (charging), MP is copper plates, L is leaf. Red is what is connected to “plus”, blue is what is connected to “minus”.
So, first we take a copper plate and insert it into the galvanic bath. It is better to place two plates on both sides so that the current flows from both sides and copper plating occurs evenly. You can do more, it depends on the breadth of your soul and the number of copper plates. It’s better to fix the plate, there are options. I have one plate, only bent, so I made holes in the container with a heated nail and screwed self-tapping screws into them - they pressed my plate. It didn't turn out very aesthetically, but it will work...
Now we make a suspension from thick wire for the copper plating. And we hang something that we don’t mind trying on.
Now you can immediately hook up the current source: the red terminal (plus) to the copper plate, the black (minus) to the suspension. If only everything were so simple... A car charger works with a certain range of currents and voltages, the current may be too high for us. Then the deposition of copper will go too quickly, it will settle in pimples like this.
Or even flakes like these that can be easily scraped off with your finger.
We need to reduce the current. The longer and slower we spray copper, the smoother and denser the layer will be. You are not required to spray it with the power of thought - just set up a weak current, and go about your business, occasionally checking how things are going there. But how can we reduce the current if we have already set it to the minimum possible on charging? The school physics course says to add a light bulb to the circuit! There will be additional resistance and the current will decrease. We take a small light bulb (for example, the simplest and cheapest one for the size of a car shop),
We wrap two contacts with electrical tape (for convenience, you can just use two pieces of wire).
The light bulb doesn’t care which side it gets a plus or a minus - don’t be afraid to mix it up.
Make sure that the wire only touches one contact of the lamp! otherwise the current will not flow through the lamp and there will be no use from it.
And now you can assemble the circuit: plus from the charger to the light bulb, the light bulb to the copper plate, minus from the charger to the pendant. The voltage on my installation is 0.7 Volts, the current is about 0.05 - 0.1 A. This is not dangerous, although it is not very pleasant if you forget about safety precautions and feel it yourself (yes, yes, I confess, it happened)..
Now all that remains is to pour in the electrolyte, and you can try!
And now a little about the light bulb. The car charger lights up with a diode and buzzes even when there is no current flowing through its terminals - it does this when it is simply plugged into a socket. But the light bulb will only light if there is current in the circuit and the galvanization process is in progress, so it is very convenient to walk by, just looking at the light bulb. If it goes out, the current is gone. While I was writing these lines, I saw the light go out - I tried the new leaf hanging system, but the fastening was corroded by electrolyte and the leaf came off and fell. Without the lamp, I wouldn’t have known about it right away.
Why is it inconvenient to use a phone charger: firstly, it is not clear where the plus and minus are, and secondly, it gives a current of about 0.8A, that is, 8 times more - you need more lamps, or some other resistance...
But, this is just the beginning! Next, you need to prepare the electrolyte, correctly apply the conductive layer (after all, our leaf does not conduct current), then make sure that the leaf is properly galvanized.. And, if all is well, you will get such a wonderful openwork metal leaf!
A charging device, and almost everything else, is available in almost every home where there is a car. All “crocodiles” can be easily replaced with twists, so the cost of the “starter kit” is minimal. If you are not interested in this activity, you will not have to regret the money spent. Good luck!
PS: Although this does not apply to this section, I will mention - remember that you need to wear gloves when working with electrolyte! That copper plating releases hydrogen gas, which is explosive in large quantities. Of course, for an explosion you need to copper plate, at a minimum, the cabinet, but still open the window slightly..
PPS: I really hope that I explained it clearly, if there is anything, ask! This is my first MK, I haven’t got my hands full yet..
Are there any contraindications?
Like all devices, massagers have contraindications. You should not use any massage devices if you have:
- malignant formations;
- diseases of the endocrine system;
- heart and vascular diseases;
- active skin diseases (for example, psoriasis);
- infectious diseases with skin rashes;
- pregnancy and lactation period.
Microcurrent massage is not recommended if you have: epilepsy, damage to the facial nerves, or have metal implants (except dental ones).
