After cosmetics institutes opened in the main capitals of the Soviet Union in the late 1930s: Moscow and Leningrad, the regions began to adopt their experience. In 1958, the first beauty salon was opened in Kuibyshev on the basis of a bath and laundry trust, where medical cosmetology began to emerge. A year later, the office was transformed into a medical cosmetics clinic. In the Volga Federal District it became the only institution of this type. Much credit for the opening of the institution belonged to Inna Nikolaevna Dolnikova, who managed to prove that cosmetology is not just external beauty, but also people’s health. Inna Nikolaevna’s lectures on the creation of a cosmetology service in the country have still been preserved, in which she wrote:

“... In our country, only under Soviet power did cosmetology become accessible to the public. The first cosmetology establishment appeared seven years after the revolution. This indicated that the increased material level and improved culture of the population not only created the need for this assistance, but also the young state had the opportunity to provide it...”

Together with Inna Nikolaevna, head nurse Nina Semyonovna Chadenkova began her journey in cosmetology. A little later, Marina Mikhailovna Morozova, Khalida Suleymanovna Aptekova, Natalia Mikhailovna Rodionova, Natalia Mikhailovna Knyazkina arrived.

– Gradually, with the development of aesthetic medicine, congresses, conferences, and symposiums began to be held in the country. Of course, we took part in all such events because we wanted to learn about new services and modern equipment, which was later brought to Samara. I admit, the beginning was difficult. When Zinaida Artamonovna Tutaeva came to the hospital, she did a lot for the development of this medical institution. Medical cosmetology and rehabilitation departments were opened. She was the first in the Samara region to open a department of plastic surgery, which in the future became the founder of other clinics of this profile, because Samara plastic surgeons began their journey here. It turns out that our Center is the cradle of cosmetology and plastic surgery in Samara!

Zinaida Artamonovna Tutaeva is a very well-known figure in the Samara region. She grew up in a family of hereditary doctors, so she decided on her future profession in childhood. After graduating from the medical institute in Grodno in 1972, she worked as a pediatrician for about ten years, but when she arrived in Kuibyshev, she decided to change her specialty. Cosmetology then began to actively develop, and she got a job at a cosmetology clinic, first as a doctor, and a few years later she headed it. As time passed, the population's need for cosmetology services grew every year, the cosmetology clinic actively developed and in 1996 was reorganized into the LLC Center for Cosmetology and Plastic Surgery. The experience of specialists has always been valued here, but now foreign equipment has also been added, and doctors have begun to work at the European level. From the very beginning, employees put into practice the methodological developments of the Moscow Research Institute of Cosmetology.

– It’s been a pleasure to work here from the very first day! It was a great honor for me to work under the leadership of Zinaida Artamonovna Tutaeva. Today we continue her work thanks to the fact that several decades ago she organized the entire system. She taught us to constantly develop, to master all the best and most advanced.

– I got a job at the Center when Zinaida Artamonovna was its head. We can say that this is a person who devoted himself entirely to his work and has now passed on his work to the children who worthily continue the wonderful Tutaev dynasty.

The treatment and prevention center had three interconnected departments: cosmetology, physiotherapy and plastic surgery, which opened in 1988 and became a revolutionary event for the entire region! Those wishing to receive cosmetology services could visit the office of hardware cosmetology, electrolysis, permanent makeup and tattooing. The Center provided massages, therapeutic and nourishing masks, skin cleansing of various depths, and various rejuvenation procedures. Women and men were relieved of wrinkles and scars, age spots, warts and moles, and teenagers were relieved of acne. Later, thanks to the acquisition of high-quality equipment at the Center, the latest procedures became available to Samara residents: lifting, biomagnetic therapy, peeling, lymphatic drainage, electrical stimulation, microgalvanics, phototherapy and others.

And the specialists of the plastic surgery department performed plastic surgeries at a high professional level: anti-aging surgeries on the face, plastic surgery and correction of the nose and ears, endoprosthetics, lifting with breast augmentation and reduction, tummy tuck, fat removal from any part of the body. Surgeons actively worked to improve techniques that would reduce the rehabilitation period to a minimum, underwent specialization in America, and created their own developments.

– Plastic surgery has always been an exclusive specialty. It’s no secret that not all of our fellow doctors liked us when we were just starting our journey, because they believed that people who work for money and do aesthetics are not surgeons at all. Then, over time, there was finally an awareness in society that plastic surgery is a full-fledged, legitimate surgical specialty. Our work is no less difficult and responsible, and perhaps even more responsible, than other medical specialties. Later, recognition came both from colleagues and from medical management. Since 2009, plastic surgery is an official medical specialty included in the register of the Ministry of Health and Social Development of the Russian Federation.

From the pages of city newspapers, Zinaida Artamonovna shared her beauty secrets, recipes for natural masks with city residents and talked about the services available at the Center in her own column “Zinaida Tutaeva Recommends.” The head physician of the large Center was open to newspaper readers and to all visitors to the medical institution, because the doors to her office were almost never closed. Zinaida Artamonovna hired the same responsive and attentive doctors and nurses. They still don’t know what staff turnover is; along with young, progressive specialists, the Center employs specialists with extensive work experience.

– Even at a young age, I was a patient of this Center, which used to be located on Kuibyshev Street (opposite Strukovsky Park), then it was called a cosmetology clinic. I immediately really liked this medical institution, it had a good environment and friendly people. Therefore, when I graduated from medical school, studied to be a cosmetologist, specialized first in Rostov-on-Don, then at the Moscow Research Institute, got a job at this cosmetology clinic, which by that time had moved to a large building on Molodogvardeiskaya Street ( 1979-1980), and in 1981 my work began here.

The Center for Cosmetology and Plastic Surgery over time became a reputable medical institution, where patients came from many cities of the Volga region and other cities in Russia and abroad. It was the only Center where they practiced medical cosmetology. Moreover, over time, it became a base for training paramedical personnel wishing to specialize in the field of cosmetology, and courses and training seminars began to be held for doctors. The institution has established a consultation system for complex cases that require additional examination by specialists. One of them was an oncologist surgeon of the highest category, Boris Ivanovich Borisov. For more than 20 years at the oncology dispensary, he headed the advisory and outpatient department, as they say, he was “on the front line”, where the initial reception of patients is carried out. Today, his daughter Elena Borisovna Borisova conducts consultations at the Center, continuing the family medical dynasty. Along with her, the head of the department of skin and venereal diseases of SamSMU, Evgeny Vladimirovich Orlov, and the head of the department of evidence-based medicine and clinical pharmacology, Alexander Semenovich Shpigel, have been receiving patients for more than one decade.

But our special pride is our doctors! These are true professionals in their field, people with extensive experience in the field of cosmetology. They constantly improve their skills, because the most important thing is education. Our doctors exchange experiences at conferences, master new services in the field of cosmetology, and develop unique techniques that patients can receive only within the walls of our Center. Moreover, aesthetic medicine in our country is developing with huge strides, and, by the way, it has always been this way. And even if we look at the level of cosmetology in the world, I will say that Europe is far from us in terms of the quality and variety of services offered!
