How does Botox help smooth out wrinkles?

Botox for the face: the essence of the procedure

Botulinum therapy is the injection of botulinum toxin (botulinum toxin) purified from impurities in low dosages. Correction of appearance with its use is approved by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. This is a practice that has been used for decades in aesthetic medicine around the world and has proven itself as an effective technique for facial rejuvenation.

Botox injections are actively used to correct facial wrinkles that appear due to high mobility of facial muscles. Botulinum toxin injections relax them and thereby smooth out wrinkles for several months. The effect is noticeable after the first session.

The needles used are so thin that the procedure is usually painless and no rehabilitation is required afterwards.

Basic drugs

Correction of facial wrinkles is carried out with various drugs containing botulinum toxin. They have both common features and certain differences. The following names are in demand:

  1. Botulinum toxin was one of the first to be used in cosmetology. It contains botulinum toxin A and excipients. The result can be obtained 2 weeks after the manipulation.
  2. Dysport has the same active ingredient, but with a smaller molecular size. This contributes to the rapid manifestation of beneficial properties.
  3. Xeomin consists of botulinum toxin type A, but with a higher degree of purification. This reduces the risk of complications.
  4. Relatox is a Russian drug. It contains a type A neurotoxin and a complexing protein from animal gelatin.

Patients may have difficulty choosing a drug, so consultation with an experienced specialist is recommended. Our clinic employs true professionals who have extensive experience and are highly qualified.

Indications for botulinum therapy

The main “targets” for botulinum toxin are wrinkles that appear as a result of active facial expressions. Injections smooth them out, and you can safely smile without fear that wrinkles will reveal your age.

The effect of the drugs lasts several months, and during this time new “signs of the times” usually do not appear.

Botox works on different parts of the face, so its range of applications is quite wide:

  • “crow's feet” (wrinkles around the eyes);
  • nasolacrimal grooves;
  • “purse-string” wrinkles (around the mouth);
  • wrinkles on the forehead and between the eyebrows;
  • drooping corners of the mouth;
  • wrinkles on the back of the nose;
  • folds on the chin;
  • drooping eyebrow tips;
  • facial asymmetry;
  • folds and cords on the neck;
  • wrinkles in the décolleté area.

In addition, botulinum toxin injections also have non-standard uses that not many people know about.

For example, such unusual readings:

  • Increased sweating. Botulinum therapy also copes well with such a delicate problem as hyperhidrosis. In such cases, injections are given in the armpits, palms and feet.
  • Exposing the upper gum (gummy smile). This is an anatomical feature in which the upper gum is visible when smiling. But, according to modern canons of beauty, it should not be visible at all, or the gum should be exposed no more than a couple of millimeters. In this case, botulinum toxin injections are made into the muscles of the mouth - they relax and the upper lip is no longer able to rise as high as before. In addition, its volume increases slightly. The effect is temporary – up to 4-6 months.
  • Prevention of scars and scars. Botulinum toxin can help out during the healing stage: it relieves tension from the tissues and, as a result, the edges of the wound are smoothed out and the scar becomes barely noticeable.

What is botulinum toxin

Correction of facial wrinkles with botulinum toxin is successfully used in cosmetology and is characterized by miraculous properties. Botulinum toxin is a powerful poison of natural origin. This is a protein that reduces the transmission of impulses from nerve endings to muscles. This toxin began to be diluted and thoroughly purified. After this, it has beneficial properties. Due to its effectiveness, the procedure is actively used among patients of different ages. Two drugs are in demand - Botulinum toxin from an American manufacturer and Dysport from a French manufacturer.

Indications for the procedure:

  1. Wrinkles that appear as a result of active facial expressions.
  2. Horizontal folds in the forehead area.
  3. Vertical wrinkles between the eyebrows.
  4. Pronounced nasolabial lines.
  5. Crow's feet.

Contraindications

Botulinum therapy is considered a fairly safe procedure, however, like any cosmetic procedures, such injections have contraindications.

Types of botulinum toxin injections

Usually botulinum therapy is simply called “Botox injections,” but this is a collective name, since different injection drugs are used.

The main drugs for botulinum therapy:

  • Botox was created in the USA. It was the first to receive drug status, passed all clinical trials back in the 90s of the 20th century, and at the beginning of the 2000s it was approved by the FDA (Agency of the US Department of Health and Human Services) as a means for correcting appearance and eliminating excessive sweating.
  • "Dysport". Produced in France, this is the first European analogue of Botox. It differs from it in the concentration of botulinum toxin and the content of excipients. At the same time, “Dysport” is cheaper and begins to act a couple of days earlier than the “original”. However, its validity period is shorter on average by a month.
  • Relatox is the first Russian premium version of Botox. Its operating principle is the same, but the price of the domestic drug is 20-30% lower, and the effect lasts longer - up to 7-9 months.
  • "Xeomin." Composition made in Germany. Its main difference is the high content of albumin, a substance that makes the drug more resistant to the influence of external factors. For a botulinum therapy session, you need less of it than the American drug. But the result does not last long - only 2-3 months. The cost is comparable to Botox.
  • "Botulax". This is a Korean and cheaper version of Neuroprotein.

The result appears approximately on the third day and lasts for 4-6 months.

All these drugs allow you to eliminate wrinkles on the face, neck, and décolleté.

The effect is visible both on newly formed and deep wrinkles.

Botulinum toxin injections remove excessive tension and asymmetry. Therefore, cosmetologists sometimes recommend treating the entire face so that it looks as harmonious as possible.

Stages of the procedure

Before injecting botulinum toxin, the doctor should ask the patient about existing diseases and the medications he is taking.

Afterwards, the doctor will most likely ask you to smile as hard as you can to assess the number and depth of wrinkles. Based on this, he will calculate the required amount of the drug.

How is botulinum therapy performed?

  1. A cosmetologist cleanses the patient's skin of makeup and impurities.
  2. At the request of the patient (for example, in case of increased sensitivity), local anesthesia can be given.
  3. A botulinum toxin-based drug is injected into the areas requiring correction using a thin needle.

The procedure is painless and comfortable, and immediately after you can go about your business - no traces of the injections remain.

The correction method using botulinum toxin type A is approved by the Russian Ministry of Health and officially registered.

How long does it take for results to appear?

Patients typically see improvement approximately two to four days after botulinum toxin injections.

The maximum result can be assessed within a week after the procedure; it may vary and largely depends on the following factors:

● Age;

● Muscle mass;

● Gender;

● Injection volume;

● Treatment area;

● Physical activity after the procedure.

Botox takes time to work because it must reach the cellular level of the muscle to block neurotransmitters in the nerve, which ultimately leads to paralysis of the muscle.

Frequency of the procedure

The effects of Botox are not permanent—after a few months after the procedure, you will begin to notice the return of old wrinkles. However, with regular use of “beauty injections”, wrinkles may become less pronounced.

Typically, the effect of Botox lasts up to three to four months. Therefore, it is recommended to carry out the procedure once every three to four months. However, an individual approach is important here, so we recommend consulting with a doctor experienced in aesthetic medicine.
