Almond facial peeling - an all-season rejuvenation procedure

Deep cleansing of the skin with acids, which gives a healing, rejuvenating effect, has long been valued for the effectiveness of the results. Such exfoliation procedures are easy to perform and affordable when performed in a salon. Almond peeling, which is considered a universal and safe intervention, attracts the most attention. The procedure using hydroxyphenylglycolic acid is positioned as one of the few effects indicated in the summer. This further increases interest in the option.

Description of mandelic acid

Mandelic (phenylglycolic) acid belongs to the aromatic fruit alpha-hydroxy acids along with its closest analogues, glycolic and lactic. The main advantage of this option is its gentle effect on the skin.

Mandelic acid has a larger molecule, which prevents immediate penetration into tissues, reducing negative reactions (irritation, redness, burns). Moreover, the substance, unlike its analogues, is able to dissolve in oils, which have the property of a conductor into the thickness of the skin.

This causes the chemical to work at a deeper level.

Mandel acid is obtained from natural raw materials: bitter almonds. The substance has long been used in medicine and pharmacology. Beneficial properties determine interest in the option for use in cosmetology . The substance is suitable for the treatment of acne, age spots, wrinkles. Amygdalinic acid is known for its antibacterial and regenerating abilities, which further increases the value of the substance.

The chemical acts gently and does not cause side effects, which determines the versatility of products based on it: the possibility of use for owners of different skin types at any age, use is not subject to seasonal restrictions. In cosmetology, options of different concentrations are used depending on the tasks.

For home use, it is recommended to pay attention to ready-made products, the composition of which can be supplemented with other aggressive chemicals (glycolic, salicylic, lactic acids), oils, plant extracts and other useful components. For professional use, a concentrated version is suitable, which can be used independently or for preparing individual mixtures.

The cost of preparations based on mandelic acid varies (average range: 1.5–3 thousand rubles). The price depends on the composition and concentration of the substances. Peels containing 30–50% active ingredient are popular. A pure acid composition for procedures (100%) from the Polish brand BingoSpa costs from 800 rubles. per bottle 5 ml.

How to choose almond peeling

In order for facial cleansing to be effective and safe, it is advisable to consider what types of peeling there are. Medium and deep treatments are carried out in a clinic or beauty salon; they must be carried out by a specialist - a cosmetologist, since strong chemical preparations of professional organic products are used. The most gentle is considered to be superficial cleaning, which affects only the top layer of keratinized cells of the epidermis. It can be done independently at home using any almond peeling, which explains the popularity of this product.

Stages of the procedure on how to do facial cleansing at home:

  1. pre-treatment with a moisturizing hydroalcoholic lotion for the purpose of degreasing;
  2. applying a natural product along massage lines to the face area, with the exception of the area around the eyes and lips;
  3. hold for 10 minutes;
  4. rinse with cool water.

It should be noted that one of the features of mandelic acid, which is part of the drug, is its precipitation into a white sediment, which is a kind of mask on the face with the effect of slight numbness of the nasolabial triangle and a tingling sensation.

In addition to monopeeling with a mandelic acid concentration of 10-60%, there are several varieties that include other acids that are best for the skin:

  • almond-ferulic - an anti-aging cosmetics product, usually produced in the form of a serum, excellent for summer use, according to buyers, it has a gentle effect on the skin, and has a short recovery period;
  • almond-milk, which is distinguished by natural ingredients and a convenient release form, is represented among pharmaceutical cosmetics, most suitable for skin up to 40 years old;
  • almond-salicylic - a chemical option based on burning the problem area of the dermis, followed by exfoliation of dead cells; often present in Asian cosmetics.

Before deciding which one is better to buy, it is appropriate to know about the benefits of this cosmetic product:

  • delicacy - preserves the main layer of the dermis without damage;
  • rejuvenation - softens the skin, stimulating it to produce collagen and elastin fibers;
  • lightening - makes signs of inflammation, freckles, age spots less noticeable;
  • versatility - suitable for all skin types and ages, is an all-season face care product: it is recommended to use twice a year in a course of 6-8 uses at weekly intervals.

Also take into account contraindications in order not to harm your health:

  • rosacea;
  • pregnancy and lactation;
  • damage and inflammation of the skin;
  • very dry skin.

Criterias of choice

What to look for when choosing almond peeling:

  • compound;
  • skin type;
  • aroma, consistency;
  • Effect;
  • ease of application;
  • price.

Compound. The main component of the drug should be phenoxyglycolic acid, preferably from organic natural raw materials. The addition of other acids to the formula for superficial removal of keratinized epidermis is welcome.

Skin type. This category of drugs is recommended for owners of any skin, from oily and problematic to dry and sensitive. However, it is important to follow the rule: the oilier the skin, the higher the concentration of mandelic acid should be contained in the peeling.

Aroma, consistency. All such products have a specific acetone or alcohol odor. As for the consistency, it can be gel or hydroalcoholic.

Effect. When purchasing, it is advisable to pay attention to the effect declared by the manufacturer. This can be a product with the function of lightening and whitening, rejuvenation, fighting inflammation and rashes. Many drugs even out the relief of the face and normalize the functioning of the sebaceous glands.

Ease of application. It is important what packaging the product is produced in and from what material: whether it will be an inexpensive plastic bottle with a screw-on cap or a dark glass bottle with a dispenser in the form of a dropper or pipette. In the second case, application will be much more comfortable.

Price. It is important how much a cosmetic product costs. It is not advisable to buy products that are too expensive or too budget-friendly in price. In the first case, you may simply overpay for the brand and quality of packaging, but not the contents. In the second, you risk getting caught with a fake or counterfeit. The cost of the product must correspond to the quality. Even inexpensive new products from trusted brands can be no less effective than luxury brands.

Recommendations

Let's consider the tips that are advisable to use when choosing the right product:

  1. Before purchasing, be sure to study the instructions, indications, contraindications, and rules for dry cleaning at home.
  2. When deciding where to buy the appropriate product, it is appropriate to contact specialized stores, pharmacies, or order online from the online store of the manufacturer or its official representative.
  3. For dry and sensitive skin, products with a gel consistency are more suitable; in other cases, water-alcohol products are more suitable. This will prevent negative sensations on the face during the manipulation.
  4. Along with almond peeling, it is advisable to purchase a nourishing night or moisturizing day cream to ensure better skin condition and speedy restoration of the skin. The ideal components of the cream are almond oil, panthenol, beeswax.

The essence of peeling

Cosmetologists recommend not to experiment by trying different recipes for preparing almond peeling compositions. There is a lot of unreliable information on the Internet; when mixing ingredients, you can make a mistake in the proportions and principles of combining the components.

This can cause the development of complications and a sad experience of getting acquainted with a useful substance.

Exfoliation is not difficult at all, especially using formulations adapted for ordinary consumers. For home use, it is recommended to buy products from well-known brands with low concentrations of active chemicals. Particularly convenient are compositions that do not require neutralization. The substance is simply applied to the skin. After 10–15 minutes, the residue is washed off with water, and the skin is treated with cream.

Advice. The best choice is to contact a cosmetologist. The doctor will assess the condition of the skin and recommend proper care. To maintain a positive reputation, it is beneficial for a cosmetologist to carry out interventions in accordance with the protocol for the specified product, achieving ideal results.

Skin care

After almond peeling, recovery takes no more than four days. For the rehabilitation process to be successful, the skin must be properly cared for. To do this, cosmetologists recommend using moisturizing creams based on lactic acid or collagen.

It is necessary to protect the skin from exposure to ultraviolet radiation. It is necessary to avoid the solarium for a while. Before going outside, apply sunscreen with an SPF level of at least 30 to your face.

Indications for use

Almond peeling is most often used in complex therapy. Exfoliation will become the basis for more serious interventions; it will cleanse and prepare the skin for deep penetration of medicinal compounds and care products. As an independent procedure, it is usually prescribed to solve simple problems.

General indications for the procedure are:

  • increased sebum secretion (including enlarged pores, oily seborrhea);
  • acne, spots and acne scars;
  • tendency to develop acne (inflammation not in the stage of active rashes);
  • hyperpigmentation (including melasma, lentigo);
  • signs of photoaging;
  • disturbed skin texture (nervousness, bumps, hyperkeratosis, scars);
  • the first signs of age-related changes (superficial facial wrinkles, loss of skin firmness and elasticity);
  • poor tolerance to more effective superficial peels.

Many cosmetologists prefer to use this option in the summer: phenylglycolic acid does not have mechanisms for worsening pigmentation, the procedure is easily tolerated by patients. All-season use expands the possibilities of exfoliation.

Almond peeling at home (instructions)

IMPORTANT!

Tatiana Kuznetsova

It is recommended to purchase only high quality products for home procedures. Cheap and untested drugs can harm the skin.

Stages of home peeling:

  1. Makeup removal. Remove all cosmetics using a special lotion or milk.
  2. Steaming. It is necessary for good opening of pores and better access of the active components of the peeling into the deep layers of the skin.
  3. Treatment for toning. To do this, take 10% mandelic acid (it not only tones, but also disinfects).
  4. Pre-peeling. A composition of 5% mandelic, lactic and glycolic acids is applied to the face. They promote deeper penetration of peeling into skin cells. In addition, the applied composition will help test the sensitivity of the skin to the main product.
  5. Peeling. The solution stays on the face for 10-25 minutes. The duration of exposure depends on the type of skin, the degree of sensitivity and color, as well as on the amount of product applied and its manufacturer.

Impact effectiveness

The main beneficial effects of almond peeling are: mild exfoliating abilities with high efficiency, antiseptic, comedolytic mechanisms.

The results of the substance’s work allow you to free pores from dirt and horny barriers, narrow the ducts, and regulate sebum secretion. This is useful for those who are prone to excessive oiliness and inflammation.

The exposed young layer of tissue is smoother, has an attractive appearance and youthful qualities. This allows you to temporarily get rid of the signs of aging. Peeling does not have mechanisms for stimulating its own rejuvenating processes, except for mechanical renewal. To consolidate the achievements of exfoliation, you will have to continue implementing the anti-aging program.

Effect of peeling on facial skin

Almond peeling – what is it and what results can you expect? Cleansing the skin with an aggressive drug allows you to achieve the following effect:

  • blood circulation improves;
  • the shade of the dermis is evened out;
  • pores are cleaned of dirt, dust, and narrowed;
  • peeling of keratinized, dead skin cells occurs;
  • metabolic processes in the tissues of the epidermis are brought back to normal.

The top layer of skin is completely removed, which leads to the smoothing of fine wrinkles, the disappearance of rashes, pigment spots, and peeling. The sebaceous glands begin to work less actively, and the greasy, untidy layer from the surface of the dermis is eliminated.

What's happened

Chemical peeling with mandelic acid 35% Ondevie is a cosmetic product, the main substance of which is obtained by hydrolysis from bitter almond extract. Peeling is available in gel form. This ensures uniform distribution and penetration of its components into the layers of the dermis.

Ondevie peeling is a cosmetic procedure for exfoliation and skin renewal based on the effects of 35% mandelic acid.

The method is recommended for acne, age spots, and minor symptoms of aging.

This product fights well against many skin imperfections, eliminates age spots, has an anti-inflammatory effect, helps smooth out wrinkles and scars, and evens out facial tone. In addition, Ondevie peeling is widely used for therapeutic purposes for acne, comedones, pustules, and prevents the formation of scars and scar tissue.

Preparatory stage

All chemical peels are recommended to be carried out after preliminary preparation of the skin. 1–2 weeks are enough for this:

  • stop tanning;
  • maintain the integrity of the integument and health;
  • use a cream with a low content of fruit acids as night care;
  • Perform light procedures 1-2 times with exfoliants intended for home use.

The above actions will help soften the roughened surface layer of cells and create a basis for professional exfoliation.

Lack of preparation will not be a serious obstacle to the intervention, but the quality of the result may differ slightly from that declared by the manufacturer of the product used. You should also not maintain the maximum exposure time for the mixture, or apply several layers of the substance to “improve” the effect. This can lead to complications.

Mandelic and lactic acids

Acids have long been firmly established in our lives. And not only in its pure form. And not only cosmetologists. There is such a huge variety of products with acids created for home use that it’s dizzying.

I tried many different acids. Most skin lightening peels contain entire complexes of various acids that are aimed at solving the problems of uneven complexion and pigmentation. And light exfoliation, of course. With the advent of acids in my life, I almost forgot about scrubs and mechanical facial cleansing in general. Sometimes I just use it as an old believer :)

There are two of my favorite acids - mandelic and lactic, which are firmly entrenched in my care. I have been using them for a long time and on a regular basis.

Lactic acid or Lactic Acid is presented in 5% and 10% concentrations, but today I would like to talk about the minimum percentage of lactic acid in the product I use, namely The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5% +HA

Lactic acid, and in this product in tandem with hyaluronic acid, is designed to moisturize the skin, even out its texture through very gentle and gentle exfoliation, soften it and lighten pigmentation and post-acne.

Previously, I used The Ordinary peeling with 10% lactic acid 1-2 times a week, but after trying 5% lactic acid for 7 days in a row at night after 7 days, I realized how much “degree” twice as low can be more effective for skin.

5% lactic acid fits well and is distributed over the skin, does not irritate it at all, perfectly polishes the skin, gets rid of blackheads and dries out possible inflammations. This serum lightens age spots and post-acne well, the main thing here is regularity + tandem in evening care with niacinamide. No need to throw slippers at me now, everyone has their own experience :)

The practice of using peeling has shown that 5% is not so little if used purposefully and every day. Duration according to the condition of the skin, 7 to 7 helped me well. And now I use 1 week of 5% lactic acid per month, sometimes 5 days. The pigmentation began to recede a little, but I think this is also due to the new serum with vitamin C, and I plan to talk about it a little later + a course of mandelic acid and complex peeling.

The diagram looks something like this:

1 week - 5% lactic acid at night, cover with cream

Week 2 – complex peeling for skin lightening 2 times a week

Week 3 - mandelic acid at night, cover with cream if The Ordinary, or wash off if Icon Skin

4 week complex peeling 2 times a week

Throughout the month, serum with vitamin C in the morning from 2 times a week to daily use, depending on the condition of the skin. The course takes me about 2 months, then I look at the condition of my skin. Let me remind you that my skin is very thin, sensitive, and prone to dryness. Extremely accustomed to acids.

The liquid is slightly viscous, but not sticky, fits well on the skin, absorbs quickly enough and does not require rinsing. But it's a matter of personal preference. If there are any open inflammations or lesions on the skin, you may feel a slight tingling sensation in the first couple of minutes.

Mandelic acid or peels based on it are my favorite. I have two manufacturers whose mandelic acid peels I currently like the most and they are quite different.

The Ordinary Mandelic Acid 10% + HA

Mandelic acid is one of the mildest acids in its effect on the skin, but still the manufacturer insists on using Sanskrin, since this acid increases sensitivity to ultraviolet radiation.:) In general, acids and Sanskrins are eternal companions in life. These tandems cannot be ignored.

A slightly viscous yellowish liquid is easily applied and distributed over the skin; it should be used as evening skin care, do not rinse off. I don’t mix it with anything, but if your skin is hypersensitive, you can mix it with squalane or oil, but honestly, I don’t see much point in this, because mandelic acid exfoliates the skin especially gently.

It may cause tingling on irritated skin in case of inflammation, sensitive skin quickly adapts without any peeling or redness on the skin. I usually use mandelic acid alone twice a week at night, and in the morning a double dose of moisturizing in the form of a face mask and moisturizing serum if the peeling is not used in a course as described above.

The next morning the skin is smooth, no redness, if any inflammation suddenly appears, it goes away very quickly. Mandelic acid gently and delicately exfoliates the skin, renews it, and evens out the complexion. Unfortunately, it doesn’t really have any effect on age spots; lactic acid does a great job here.

Icon Skin 12% Mandelic Smart Peel System

The percentage of mandelic acid in this peeling is already higher and amounts to 12%.

Liquid peeling with 12% mandelic acid is positioned by the manufacturer as Medium and can be used all year round and for any skin type.

The peeling has a pleasant aroma, but barely perceptible. The liquid itself is a little viscous, but spreads easily onto the skin without being sticky. I don’t wash off The Ordinary mandelic acid, but the manufacturer recommends not leaving this peeling on the skin and rinsing it off after 3-10 minutes on the skin.

Use once every 10 days. I used it 1-2 times a week, as my skin can easily withstand such stress.

The first time, as expected, I applied the peeling for only 3 minutes and... I didn’t feel anything at all. The second time I already used it for 10 minutes. I don't feel any tingling or any discomfort on my skin. Peeling is also washed off very quickly with running water.

Of course, if there is any inflammation on the skin, then it is better not to apply peeling to these areas. Sensitive skin adapts to peeling very quickly, there is no peeling or redness. Perhaps after a few uses the sensitivity of the skin will increase, I noticed this with aggressive cleansing masks and simply began to do them less often. But this increased sensitivity is temporary.

What is the merit of almond peeling? It very carefully, gradually polishes the skin, removes redness, evens out the complexion, and delicately exfoliates. The skin seems to come to life. Also reduces inflammation.

Lactic and mandelic acids work great together in my skincare routine. I follow a similar regimen about once a year after active summer sun, or I can do it at the end of winter. But even outside the scheme described above, these acids are always present in my care as peelings 1-2 times a week, since nothing else evens out my complexion like these two magical remedies.

Progress of the procedure

During the procedure, in addition to almond peeling, it is recommended to use professional cosmetics, which will allow the main working composition to have the best effect on the skin. The exfoliation session must be done following the following sequence:

  1. Skin preparation. On the day of the procedure, do not use cosmetics containing fruit acids at home. It is not advisable to wear makeup. Before exposure, the surface is cleaned of contaminants (using mild products that do not disturb the pH). Tissue preparation is carried out using cleansing milk, followed by toning with products containing 10% mandelic acid.
  2. Performing peeling. For better penetration of the active composition, you can first perform pre-peeling (multi-acid composition with a 5% concentration of substances). Immediately after the surface has dried (up to 5 minutes), apply the base composition using a fan brush. The procedure parameters are set individually (acid concentration, number of layers, exposure time). When getting acquainted with the substance, it is recommended to keep the cocktail on your face for 3–5 minutes. When performing subsequent sessions of the course, the exposure time is gradually increased to 15–20 minutes. Approximately how long you need to keep it is always indicated in the instructions for the composition.
  3. Neutralization. To suppress the activity of the active component, neutralization must be carried out. A special composition is used, selected from among those offered by the manufacturer of the base product used for exfoliation. After exposure, the substance is washed off with plenty of water. The neutralization step can be eliminated. The procedure is always indicated in the instructions for the drug used. It is not recommended to make a decision on your own. The cosmetologist can act at his own discretion, taking into account the details of the procedure.
  4. Care. After completing the basic steps, it is recommended to carry out a soothing mask. The finally cleansed skin is covered with a post-peeling cream with moisturizing properties.

The professional exfoliation procedure ends with a conversation between the cosmetologist and the patient. The doctor talks about the recovery period and the rules of post-peeling care.

Almond peeling, reviews from women and cosmetologists

Often the incentive to go to a salon for a procedure is the reviews of women who have already gone through it and share their impressions. How do ladies respond to peeling using almond acid? Reviews are most often positive - the drug actively eliminates defects. There are also neutral responses - the effect is noticeable after a few sessions, but for that kind of money women expect more. Negative reviews usually talk about painful sensations, especially on the sensitive dermis. Among many products, ladies highlight Ondevie almond peeling, which has a mild effect.

Cosmetologists speak positively about peeling, recommending it to women if they have not too obvious problems on the skin. The drug Kosmoteros earned an excellent rating from the masters, which can be used even on thin or sensitive dermis. In reviews, cosmetologists warn that pain during skin treatment occurs in the absence of preliminary preparation - using special milk at home.

Recovery period

Proper implementation of post-peeling care is no less important than the exfoliation procedure itself. It is important to follow all the recommendations of the cosmetologist. These include refusal to:

  • visits to the bathhouse, swimming pool, gym;
  • use of aggressive care products (with acids, abrasive particles);
  • carrying out other procedures for the skin of treated areas and adjacent surfaces.

The active recovery period, when the skin may have slight redness, swelling, and peeling, lasts 4–7 days. The occurrence of side effects is unlikely (depending on the composition used, individual reactions of the body). To eliminate unpleasant symptoms, you will have to properly care for your skin.

During the rehabilitation period, the skin must be provided with:

  • gentle cleansing;
  • anti-inflammatory treatment;
  • hydration, nutrition;
  • use of products with UV protectors.

Important! It is preferable to purchase post-peel care products offered by the brand of the substance used for exfoliation. You can get by with the usual means and include pharmaceutical ointments in your care (Solcoseryl, Bepanten, Traumeel).

Almond exfoliation, like retinoic and many others, is performed in courses of 6–10 sessions. The interval between exposures is 7–14 days. 1, less often 2 courses are carried out per year, it is possible to include maintenance sessions. The cosmetologist will draw up an individual intervention scheme after a preliminary meeting with the patient.

Retinoic peeling - what is it?

Despite the fact that today one of the most popular cleanses is retinoic peeling, not everyone knows what this is. The procedure began to be carried out by cosmetologists relatively recently, but thanks to its high efficiency and minimal trauma, it already has a lot of admirers.

Leading cosmetologists and most clients confirm that the effect of cleansing is in no way inferior to expensive injection techniques.

After the master treats the skin with a special composition and leaves it to act, the dead cells will begin to exfoliate, due to which the tissues are actively renewed.

The undoubted advantage of such cleansing is that the composition affects not only the surface layer, but also penetrates into the deeper layers of the skin, stimulating cells to divide, increasing the density of the dermis and eliminating inflammatory processes. Also, such treatment has a detrimental effect on enzymes that neutralize the effect of elastin and collagen.

Precautionary measures

Contraindications to the intervention are:

  • various skin diseases (warts, molluscum contagiosum, microsporia, psoriasis, eczema);
  • activation of the herpes virus;
  • damage to the integument (wounds, scratches);
  • acne with purulent contents in affected areas;
  • fresh tan;
  • oncology;
  • allergy to the components of the composition used;
  • active stage of any disease.

Many cosmetologists do not undertake to perform interventions during pregnancy and lactation. An individual decision is made if the patient has complex diseases (diabetes mellitus, tuberculosis, problems with the heart, blood vessels, liver, kidneys). The cosmetologist can postpone the procedure after assessing the condition of the integument, explaining the reason to the patient.

Possible complications of the intervention include: redness, peeling of the skin, swelling, itching, and tightness. Burns, infectious lesions, rashes, allergies, and exacerbation of herpes appear less frequently. In most cases, the procedure is considered comfortable and there are no complications.

Indications and contraindications for peeling

The purpose of a cosmetic procedure using almond-based acid is to get rid of skin defects by eliminating the upper layer of the dermis. Indications for manipulation:

  • wrinkles;
  • unevenness on the surface of the skin;
  • sagging chin;
  • single acne or severe rashes;
  • freckles;
  • pigment spots;
  • dark bags under the eyes.

Cleaning with an aggressive almond-based acid is a gentle burn to the skin, during which the surface of the dermis suffers. Not all women are recommended for this procedure, so you need to first study the list of prohibitions:

  • pregnancy (regardless of trimester);
  • tanning of the skin;
  • unpredictable reaction of the skin to the components of the drug;
  • inflammatory processes in the dermis;
  • wounds, cracks, burns;
  • diseases of the dermis.

Do you know? During menstruation, manipulation with acid is allowed, but one must remember that during this period the female body may unexpectedly react to the aggressive composition. Swelling, severe pain, hypermia are just part of the unpleasant consequences.

Advantages and disadvantages

The obvious advantages of exfoliation are the comfort of the procedure and the recovery period. This option can be carried out starting from adolescence. Ferulic exfoliation, one of the few, can be performed in the summer. The intervention can be performed at home.

The disadvantages of ferulic exfoliation include low effectiveness, especially for patients expecting anti-aging effects. In this case, it is better to pay attention to a similar milk peeling or multi-acid option. The positive changes achieved quickly regress. To obtain optimal results, peeling is carried out in combination with other points of the individual care program.

Opinion of cosmetologists

Doctors tend to use exfoliants based on acidic components from almond kernels in their work. The intervention is comfortable, does not cause complications, and is universal. This allows you to maintain a positive reputation while solving assigned tasks.

The cosmetologist likes the exfoliation method.

The cosmetologist does not have much hope for the option, but recognizes the beneficial effect.

The cosmetologist considers the exfoliation method to be universal.

Patient reviews

There are positive and negative reviews about the procedure. The exfoliation option can solve problems, but does not always give ideal results. In some cases, patients attribute the negative turn of the problem to the effect of almond exfoliation.

The option only works in a set of events.

I didn't like the result of exfoliation.
