TCA peeling: everything you need to know if you decide to undergo a chemical peel

What procedures can be done, having the opportunity to sit at home for one or two weeks, so as not to strain the psyche of those around you with red faces, “scabs” after TCA peeling, or bruises after contouring?

Chemical peeling may be one such procedure.

. There are 2 types of chemical peels:

1. TCA peels based on trichloroacetic acid of various concentrations;

2. retinol or yellow peels.

All these peelings are united by a long rehabilitation period (followed by an excellent result), which means you don’t have to think about the question “how to spend the New Year holidays.”

This article is about TCA peels

What is TCA peeling and why is it better to do it during the holidays?

Peeling with trichloroacetic acid belongs to the category of medium peels, which pass through the entire epidermis and reach the basement membrane - the border between the epidermis and dermis. Sometimes the papillary layer of the dermis is also burned out.

The standard procedure is performed with drugs with an active substance concentration of 20-25% (TCA 20% and TCA 25%)

In the picture: one of the most recognized drugs.

Types of drugs

Here are the most popular options for ready-made products, including trichloroacetic acid.

Impact effects

1.Exfoliation

Trichloroacetic acid is capable of destroying the special cement that binds and holds dead epidermal scales on the surface. Therefore, after peeling procedures, pronounced peeling is observed.

2. Stimulating effect

Under its influence, the skin gets severe burns. This causes activation of metabolic processes and cell division. Thus, the skin restored after injury looks younger. To meet the skin's increased needs for nutrients and oxygen, capillaries expand. And to remove large amounts of toxic metabolic products and fragments of dead tissue, lymphatic drainage is enhanced.

3.Antimicrobial action

High concentrations of acid lead to the death of microorganisms living on the surface of the skin and in the mouths of the sebaceous glands.

Indications for use

The advisability of prescribing TCA peeling is determined by a cosmetologist based on the characteristics of the skin and target problems. In some cases, less aggressive acids are used - glycolic, retinoic, salicylic. The final decision on the choice of composition and depth of exposure remains with the specialist.

Indications:

  • lumpy, uneven terrain;
  • hyperkeratosis;
  • wrinkles of varying degrees;
  • photopigmentation, unhealthy skin tone;
  • loss of tone, flabbiness of the integument;
  • flat birthmarks;
  • scars;
  • increased secretion of the sebaceous glands, causing acne, blackheads, comedones;
  • stretch marks, stretch marks;
  • stressed skin.

Used after 18 years of age to care for problematic, oily dermis. The procedure is effective after 30 years for the prevention of aging. In older age, it is prescribed to enhance collagen synthesis, lifting, and reducing the number of wrinkles. For thin, sensitive, dry skin, less aggressive chemical compositions are selected.

Consequences of the procedure. This is fine.

Severe swelling of the treated area. Particularly severe swelling is observed in people with a predisposition to allergic reactions. It is better for such people to take antihistamines before the procedure for preventive purposes: there will still be swelling, but not to the same degree of severity.

Severe redness of the skin at the site of acid exposure. The redness is persistent. It is not removed or reduced by the use of anti-burn and healing agents such as panthenol. It lasts for the first or second day and gradually turns into a dense brown film.

Feeling of tightness and dryness of the skin.

The formed fibrin film tightens the skin of the face so much that it is sometimes difficult to open the mouth. As the crusts come off, the feeling of tightness will also decrease.

Peeling, which can be of varying intensity. The crusts come off gradually as the skin burn heals.

The rehabilitation period is 10 days. But the result is worth it!

Enerpeel

Innovative peeling Enerpil contains trichloroacetic acid 25% and 40%, there are no auxiliary ingredients. It is used for severe hyperpigmentation, to correct scars, scars, to get rid of signs of hyperkeratosis, scars, and acne marks. You can only purchase from official representatives; the cost of a package of 15 ampoules is about 16,000 rubles.

PRX-T33

Medium chemical peeling based on trichloroacetic acid and hydrogen peroxide allows you to achieve a lasting rejuvenation effect. Used to get rid of scars, pigmentation, wrinkles, and signs of photoaging. The universal procedure can be carried out even in summer. The cost of PRX-T 33 is about 2200 rubles.

How is the procedure performed?

Carrying out TSA peeling involves the following procedure:

  • preliminary cleaning and degreasing of the skin using cosmetics: cream and tonic;
  • applying the peeling composition to the treated area of skin. If multiple layers are used, the procedure can be very painful. To alleviate discomfort, cosmetologists use a fan;
  • applying a special solution to neutralize trichloroacetic acid;
  • washing and treating the skin with antiseptic, moisturizing and nourishing creams.

Complications - what are cosmetologists hiding?

The body's defensive reaction after acid treatment is normal. It is expressed in the form of pastiness - slight swelling and erythema - redness. However, other complications are possible after TCA peeling. They come in 3 types:

  • immediate – appear within 2 weeks after the procedure;
  • appearing during the regenerative period – after 2–6 weeks;
  • persistent - appear after 3-10 weeks.

Patients may develop herpes, inflammatory processes on the skin and allergic reactions. Not all cosmetologists warn that sessions are often not without consequences. What to do if complications arise after TCA peeling?

In fact, there are a sufficient number of remedies to help get rid of the consequences. For example, for allergic reactions, cream ointments will be useful:

  • Dermovate;
  • Elokom;
  • Advantan;
  • Laticort;
  • Lokoid.

Anticipating the consequences, an experienced cosmetologist will give the necessary advice to help you easily go through the post-procedure recovery process.

Result

Efficiency directly depends on the percentage of acid in the solution.

15% peeling can even out the face and clear it of blackheads. More concentrated formulations rejuvenate, tighten the oval of the face, and get rid of shallow wrinkles.

Before and after

In some cases, patients noted that after peeling they did not notice any positive changes. This happens if the skin condition is very advanced. To see the result, you need to carry out more than one procedure.

Advantages and disadvantages

Properly performed manipulations using Trichloroacetic acid have a number of advantages:

  • speed of sessions;
  • when using solutions of low concentration, the restrictions are minimal;
  • preparation for the process does not require much time;
  • the results are visible visually;
  • frost effect, which allows you to determine the depth of penetration of the product;
  • relatively safe, since the drug has a low level of toxicity.

In addition to the advantages, there are a number of disadvantages of the procedure, especially when TCA 20 percent peeling is done. This:

  • the presence of a wide list of contraindications;
  • the speed of action of the product, which can confuse and delay the determination of the depth of penetration;
  • TCA peeling for the face, as well as other parts of the body, causes pain in patients;
  • with deep penetration, the skin peels off in large layers.

To ensure that the negative effect is minimal, before prescribing TCA peeling, the cosmetologist determines how many procedures are needed to achieve a good effect and in what concentration.

Medium peeling TCA (trichloroacetic acid) - reviews

likazed
https://otzovik.com/review_6057807.html

Advantages:

Feels like a tolerable procedure

Flaws:

Expensive and had no effect

I am an experienced “fighter” in terms of non-standard procedures: I have whitened my teeth and done microdermabrasion. Now I’ve decided to do a TCA chemical peel (also known as a medium peel). The goal is simple to remove - scars. For this purpose, I have undergone more than one microdermabrasion procedure. And after it the effect was not great and was gradual. Naturally, I was looking for more effective methods. And I settled on TCA peeling. The procedure took place in a good clinic with an experienced doctor. I do it there all the time. I studied the information about the procedure in advance. I noted several important points for myself. For example, that on average, layers are applied from 2 to 8. It is done only from November to February in those months when solar activity is minimal. It is often recommended to use sunscreen after the procedure, since the effect of the sun on new skin can harm the beauty and health of the skin. If you are offered to do chemical peels at other times of the year, then run away from this specialist - he is a charlotan (he only wants your money, but doesn’t care about your health!) It is advisable to use creams, but not necessary. I always do procedures in winter. It's always gloomy outside. So I never used sunscreen during this time. And everything is okay. And now about the procedure itself. 1. Cleanse the skin. Makeup remover 2. Prepare the remedy. 3. Apply the first layer. He bakes really hard. They didn’t give me anything to blow. I fanned myself with my hands to make it more bearable. Immediately the sensations became easier. 4. According to the rules, the recommended time for acid on the face is 20 seconds (this information is from a doctor). Although I read that many people write that they leave it on for a minute, and some don’t wash off the acid at all... Exactly 20 seconds later, the doctor applied a neutralizer to her face and wanted to finish the procedure. I casually told her that other salons do 8 layers. And she asked if I could do another layer. As a result, after neutralization and washing off 1 layer of acid. 5. The doctor applied acid a second time. The second time I felt almost nothing at all. No sensations. 6. Then I applied the neutralizer again. As the doctor explained, TCA technology means that before applying the next layer of acid, the doctor must neutralize and completely wash off the previous one. 7. Since I didn’t feel any effect at all, I asked to apply another layer. All stages were repeated. After the third layer, the doctor neutralized everything and washed it off. 8. I applied the care product and sent me home with the parting instructions not to wash my face for 24 hours. The whole procedure lasted 40-45 minutes. The face looked bad after the procedure, to put it mildly. The color red didn’t scare me much, but the applied mask (which could not be washed off) gave my face an unnaturally painful look. From the point of view of sensations, everything was okay. Nothing pinched or hurt anywhere. Healing process. The first two days the skin feels feverish at times. On the third day it begins to peel off in large particles. You can't tear it off. You walk around looking shabby. That's why you need to stay at home. Peeling lasts on average 7 days. And now the general opinion about the clinic, the doctor and the procedure. There is no effect after this procedure. After microdermabrasion, I saw at least small and gradual changes. TCA peeling cannot even out the skin, at least in the form that was done to me in this clinic. TCA reminded me more of homemade peels and gels in terms of effectiveness, only much more painful. The technology does not provide pain relief. (But with a fan you can really endure it). I respect and love the clinic where I have always performed many procedures. But this time it reminded me more of siphoning off money, because this clinic is more expensive than any salon in the city, and there is no effect of smoothing out scars. Another girl came out after TCA after me. It was recorded after me. So her procedure generally lasted 10-15 minutes and only one layer was applied to her, just like they wanted me to do. In general, I will not do TCA at this clinic. But I'll try to do it somewhere else. It helps others. This means it’s possible that they simply did the bare minimum to me just to save some money. There are a lot of good reviews. Therefore, I will check the effectiveness of TCA peeling in another place.

I went to a German doctor, he told me that grannies aged 55-70 do such peelings. And so that I don’t suffer foolishly. And I’ve read a lot on the Russian Internet, and here we all do this...

I don’t dwell on this period because, going through memories, I’m afraid to stumble upon ones that will make me sad. Let me just say that in the end I somehow managed to overcome acne. But this turned out to be not so bad. The worst thing was something else: the acne left deep dimples and burgundy stagnant spots with a bluish tint, because out of ignorance I simply squeezed out some pimples. Yes, of course, I acted unreasonably, but it was too late to regret what happened. Deeply feeling my own worthlessness, I began to move on with my life. Although life with such a face was more like a miserable existence, and I so wanted to please myself and the opposite sex. Of course, I couldn’t sit idly by and wait for the weather by the sea, and so I was thinking about what I should do now. I dreamed of returning my skin to its previous state. The dream turned into an obsession.

I started visiting a cosmetologist, but neither any masks with bodyaga nor liquid nitrogen helped, and then the cosmetologist advised me to do a medium peeling with trichloroacetic acid , saying that it should renew the skin well, although there is a risk of exacerbation of acne. I admit that there was a threat hidden in these words, but for me they sounded like a promise of something bright. I perked up. It is easy to imagine what inexpressible joy my heart was filled with after the hopeless situation in which I had been for a long time.

I’ll disappoint you right away, there will be no ugly Before and After photos. I simply don't have them. At that time, I consciously avoided capturing my face on film.

Preparation for medium peeling:

1) You need to wait for a period of calm for acne; even if there are single pimples, the peeling procedure cannot be carried out. I could say I was lucky: I found myself in the inter-pimple period, when my face was completely cleared of inflammatory elements.

2) Peeling can only be done in the autumn-winter period, since the new skin will be very sensitive to the sun and there is a risk of pigmentation. I did a mid-peel in February.

3) Before the mid-peeling, the cosmetologist performed a series of preparatory procedures at weekly intervals: three weeks before the mid-peel - ultrasonic facial cleansing, 2 weeks - the first superficial peeling with azelaic acid, a week - the second superficial peeling with pyruvic acid. As the cosmetologist explained to me, medium peeling cannot be carried out without prior preparation, because in order to affect the deeper layers of the skin, you first need to remove dead skin cells from the surface and you need to “accustom” the skin to the effects of acids. After superficial peelings, my skin experienced slight peeling, but the post-acne lesions remained in their original form.

Medium peeling procedure:

I was laid on a couch, my face was first cleaned and degreased with some product, and then they began to apply directly to the entire face a composition intended for medium peeling, the main component of which is

trichloroacetic acid

The cosmetologist applied the composition to the face 3 times at intervals of several minutes. The first 2 times - on the whole face, the third time - only on the cheeks, where there were deep dimples, periodically applying napkins soaked in cold water to the face. A fan was pointed at my face during the peeling. At the end of the peeling, the cosmetologist smeared something like a light cream on my face.

Feelings during peeling:

I’ll say right away that in comparison with the medium peeling, the previous superficial peels seemed like childish pranks to me, because you feel a very strong burning sensation from the effects of trichloroacetic acid. At first it struck me unpleasantly, but I was consoled by the thought that beauty requires sacrifice. The burning was so intense that it felt like I had disturbed a hornet's nest. The cold air from the fan did little to help. I was so demoralized by the burning sensation that I just wanted to get up and run away. Then, when at the end of the peeling they applied some cream to the face, it became noticeably easier. I calmly got up from the couch and went home by public transport. Moreover, interestingly, there were no traces of strong acid exposure on the face, the skin simply looked like after an intense tan.

Recommendations after peeling:

1) The cosmetologist said that on this day you should not wash your face or wet your face; in the morning you need to wash your face with plain water without using special products. Then wash your face with water only for the first 3 days. Then you can cleanse your face with foam cleanser before going to bed. I bought “Black Pearl” foam for these purposes.

2) From the fifth day on at night you need to use a light moisturizer.

3) Before going outside, you should apply sunscreen with a protection factor of 50 to your skin. I didn’t go outside for the first 10 days, so I started using sunscreen only on the 11th day after the peeling. By the way, sunscreen must be used for 3 months after peeling.

Recovery period: It must be said that the recovery period is quite long. It took me exactly 18 days, fortunately I was on vacation, because the sight, to put it mildly, was unsightly, but to put it firmly, my face could knock out anyone. The next day after the peeling, the face began to tighten, it was even difficult to chew food, the skin began to darken, turning into a crust, and on the 4th day the skin began to peel off greatly, and then the crust, reminiscent of a scab, began to gradually fall off in layers. The last scabs fell off only on the 18th day.

About the result: But all this was nonsense. I was ready to put up with all these inconveniences for the sake of a good result, for the sake of new skin, skin not burdened with dimples and stagnant spots. But there was no result: all my dimples and spots remained unchanged, and the dimples did not smooth out at all, did not decrease in relief, but remained just as rough and noticeable, even stagnant spots did not lighten at all, but even became redder. I was extremely upset, because all the suffering, all the efforts, as they say, turned out to be down the drain.

Disadvantages of medium peeling:

1. A very painful procedure that resembles a severe burn

2. Long recovery period

3. A very aggressive method of influencing the skin, in which the cosmetologist cannot completely control the strength and depth of penetration of the acid into the skin.

4. May cause exacerbation of acne. About two months after the peeling, new pimples began to actively appear, further aggravating the condition of my skin, although before that there was a period of long calm.

5. Lack of result. During my time, medium peeling was also performed on older women to remove wrinkles. So, maybe a medium peel helps a little for wrinkles, but for post-acne it is absolutely useless - it did not smooth out my post-acne dimples and did not remove my stagnant spots.

6. After the mid-peel, throughout the next winter I began to have a real allergy to the cold: my skin reacted strongly to even a slight minus, my face immediately turned red outside, and even with insignificant frost, my skin tingled as if with needles. And if there was still a cold wind, the skin experienced terrible discomfort.

How I got rid of post-acne: After the mid-peel, the era of post-scar products began in my life - I used

clearvin cream,

Mederma gel,

Contractubex gel , and a little later

Fermenkol gel , but again there was no effect. Five years ago I decided and did

laser resurfacing together with two

laser nanoperforations , and the skin of my face finally acquired a human appearance.

This is what my skin looks like now:

Conclusion: Thus, medium peeling with trichloroacetic acid is a real trap for problem skin, because exposing it to incredible suffering, it absolutely does not help get rid of post-acne, but only makes it worse, causing an exacerbation of acne and increasing the skin’s sensitivity to environmental factors, especially to the cold. I have no right to consider my opinion infallible, but it seems to me that this is still an outdated method in cosmetology, a relic of the past, a kind of atavism, and removing post-acne dimples and spots with its help is an almost impossible task. But let’s not give in to despondency, because now there are

laser procedures that can bring problematic skin with post-acne to a human appearance in record time, doing it as gently and effectively as possible.

Hi all! I’ll tell you about TCA (trichloroacetic acid) peeling 15% (Skin tech, Spain).

Oh, how long have I put off writing a review about this unpleasant procedure. Maybe because the result was ambiguous for me.

My skin is very problematic. Getting rid of inflammation (as you can read

HERE), I was left with acne marks. I wanted to do laser polishing on my face, but I decided to wait. Instead, I decided to take a course of medium chemical peels.

For skin with acne, TCA peels are considered the most suitable. You can make a course of a maximum of 4 procedures. I managed to do 2, the difference between the procedures is 3 weeks.

The patient is given a fan. Guess why?

Facial skin is cleansed. The solution is being prepared.

The eyes must be closed during the procedure. The doctor begins to apply the solution to the skin with a small brush. I had a slight inflammation, acid cannot be applied to it, so it was avoided. After applying the first layer there is no sensation . I also laughed, like why do I need a fan, I’m a patient girl, I don’t feel anything. But after the 2nd layer... My face started to burn with fire ! But the procedure continues, layer after layer is applied to the skin... And after each, the burning only intensifies. My palms were even sweaty, I fanned myself with this fan as best I could. I thought this hell would never end!!! They gave me 8 or 9 such layers. Some more, some less...

During the procedure, I asked the doctor how she determines where there is already enough acid and where there is not yet. And she said that this is all very clear: first the skin turns pink while the acid falls inside, then it becomes light blue - the beginning of the penetration of acid into the dermis, and then frost appears - a white coating, which means that the desired result has been achieved.

After the doctor admired my frost, I was given a neutralizing leave-in mask. I went home with a red face.

You should not wash your face until the next morning; in the morning after regular washing, apply Bepanthen cream and repeat the application every 2-3 hours.

The next day after peeling, the skin looked as if nothing had happened yesterday. A day later it tightened. And on the third day in the evening, I barely had time to run home from work, because the skin began to peel off in huge pieces.

I apologize for the scary photos, but to make it clearer to you what I’m talking about...

You can't peel off the skin, everything comes off on its own. This fun lasted for about 5 days. Naturally, I couldn’t leave the house. In addition, at that time there was severe cold, and such skin cannot be frozen.

In addition, on the 3rd day I was covered in inflammation. These were large, diseased subcutaneous tissues that I thought I had forgotten about forever. The doctor warned me about this, as the skin’s immunity decreases. But my inflammation after peeling left even more marks than before.

But still, after 3 weeks I repeated the procedure ( just when the inflammation went away ). It felt the same. But the skin began to peel off already on the 2nd day and did not come off in such large layers. Yes, and there was less inflammation after peeling, but they were still there!!! And of course, the lifestyle was again like that of a vampire. I only went out in the evening.

They say that the full result can be assessed 1.5-2 months after the procedure. That time has come. I don’t know, for me the result is relative... especially on the cheeks

Without makeup, the skin, of course, is not very good, but these marks perfectly cover my highlights, powders, etc. But it was so before, and it remains so after.

And here is the forehead

I like the result on my forehead better. I don’t know, it may not be very visible in the photo, but after the peeling, some (but not all) of the small brown spots that I could not remove for years disappeared.

The skin has become softer and more pleasant to the touch. The pores have not narrowed much.

The procedure has many contraindications.

There are a lot of possible complications!

This type of peeling must be carried out by a doctor! And the one you trust if you don’t want serious consequences. After all, this procedure is very serious.

And of course, peelings are carried out only from autumn to spring. Your face should be protected from the sun as much as possible.

Pros:

  • Minimal preparation for the procedure
  • Small acne spots have lightened
  • The skin is renewed and soft

Minuses:

  • Very painful procedure
  • Expensive. The price for 1 session is 3500 in my case, in salons it can reach up to 8 thousand and more.
  • Long rehabilitation, need to use bepanten
  • There are a lot of contraindications and there can be serious consequences
  • Inflammation after the procedure
  • The result is not very pronounced

I will not recommend this procedure. I haven’t completely decided for myself whether I’ll do this kind of peeling again in the fall. Maybe I'll try other options.

Thank you for your attention!

Have a good mood everyone!

Results with before and after photos

The main indicator of how TCA peeling works are photos by day, demonstrating what consequences the peeling leaves and how rehabilitation occurs. Thanks to photographs, women will be able to evaluate the result and learn about the stages of movement towards it.

The sequential arrangement of photographs shows when a crust forms after a TCA peel; the photo is a visual aid for those who want to try the procedure for the first time. The pictures show why many women compare the result to a miracle.

Healing period

To achieve the desired effect and prevent dangerous consequences, you must strictly follow the recommendations of the cosmetologist.

Healing stages:

  1. The first days there is severe redness, swelling, and discomfort symptoms may increase.
  2. On the fourth day, a dense crust envelops the skin; in areas with thin skin it forms earlier. It interferes with articulation, but you can’t rip it off.
  3. After a week, the symptoms disappear, swelling, itching and irritation decrease, the plates gradually peel off, in some cases the process can take 10–14 days.
  4. The gradual restoration of the integument lasts from 3 to 4 weeks. During this period, in addition to the basic recommendations, mesotherapy or biorevitalization can be performed.

Rules of care:

  • You can wash your face from 2–3 days, using soft foams and gels, without abrasive elements;
  • the skin needs to be treated with antiseptic solutions; Bepanten or Panthenol are prescribed to speed up healing;
  • You cannot visit the sauna, solarium, bathhouse, swimming pool, or gym until complete recovery;
  • Before going outside, use sunscreen with an SPF factor of 50;
  • Do not steam the skin or use compresses, scrubs, or gommages to speed up exfoliation.

During this period, it is important to provide maximum nutrition and hydration of tissues to restore the protective barrier. It is worth taking time off from work or university during intensive plate separation. If a girl accidentally tears off the scabs, she should consult a cosmetologist.

Preparatory stage

During the consultation, the doctor assesses the patient’s skin condition and selects a composition with a percentage acid concentration to solve individual problems. Preparation for peeling begins a month before the procedure:

  • Do not rub or irritate your face, do not use brushes, sponges, peelings, scrubs, gommages;
  • Before going outside, apply sunscreen with an SPF factor of 50;
  • 3 weeks before, the cosmetologist prescribes a cream with fruit acids; some patients are recommended to undergo superficial peelings with AHA acids;
  • you need to take antiviral drugs a week before;
  • It is prohibited to visit the sauna, swimming pool, solarium, beach, or drink alcohol;
  • The day before you cannot perform hair removal or correct the shape of your eyebrows.

Important! TCA peeling is a winter type of exfoliation; the period from November to February is considered optimal; in March it is not recommended to carry out the procedure to prevent side effects.

Opinion of cosmetologists

Professionals discuss the specifics of using TSA products.

The cosmetologist doubts how a composition with trichloroacetic acid 33% can be used in the summer.

The user writes about the disadvantages of ready-made formulations; professional cosmetologists prepare solutions themselves.

The cosmetologist describes the experience of using TCA peeling 10%, the absence of peeling on the face.
