Mammoplasty is a complex surgical operation to change the shape and volume of the mammary glands. Mammoplasty can be performed either using the body’s own tissue or using implants to give the breast a certain shape, filling the gap in natural tissue.

Mammoplasty is used by women of all ages who want to create an ideal figure.

The plastic surgery department of the Medical Expertise Clinic employs specialists from St. Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod who have experience in performing such operations, as well as experience in selecting implants that will not cause rejection and will give your breasts the ideal shape.

By choosing plastic surgery at the Medical Expertise Clinic, you are entrusting your body to professionals.

Mammoplasty (breast surgery) -

This is a plastic surgery that restores the shape of the mammary glands, especially relevant for women whose breasts have lost their shape after childbirth and breastfeeding, as well as due to age-related changes. The concept of mammoplasty includes breast augmentation with implants, breast lift, breast reduction, as well as correction of the shape of the areola and nipple.

Of course, a lot has already been said about how important it is for a woman to be beautiful, but having beautiful and firm breasts is the dream of many, and breast surgery is exactly the case when we can say that nothing is impossible! The result after mammoplasty is immediately visible, patients glow with happiness, feeling even more desirable, sexy and beautiful.

Breast augmentation

In this case, breast surgery aims to increase the size of the breast, correcting its shape by installing an implant under the mammary gland or under the pectoral muscle. High-quality implants of various shapes and compositions are used, which a woman can choose according to her wishes, taking into account the recommendations of a specialist. A week after the operation, the results will be visible and you will be able to return to your normal daily routine. Read more about breast augmentation

Types of mammoplasty operations

Breast enlargement

- endoprosthesis replacement of the mammary glands, an operation usually performed for aesthetic reasons. The purpose of this operation is to increase the volume of the breast, give it elasticity, and improve its shape. Endoprosthesis replacement is also performed to correct breast asymmetry and eliminate sagging mammary glands in the postpartum period. Breast augmentation surgery is performed using special implants that can be installed: under the glandular tissue; under the fascia of the pectoralis major muscle; in two planes - the upper edge under the pectoralis major muscle, the lower part under the glandular tissue; completely under the muscle. This type of surgery is performed to increase breast volume, correct shape and get rid of ptosis. The surgical incision can be localized either under the breast in the fold, or along the lower edge of the areola, or in the armpit. The choice of implant installation method depends on the presence or absence of breast prolapse, the thickness and elasticity of the skin and subcutaneous tissue, the presence or absence of stretch marks, the anatomical features of the pectoralis major muscles, and the presence of deformities of the sternum and ribs.

Breast reduction surgery

— reduction of the mammary glands, the operation is aimed at reducing the volume of the breast by removing glandular and fatty tissue and excess skin. The purpose of this operation is to: reduce the volume of the mammary glands, create a good breast shape with a minimum number of incisions and stitches. As a result of the operation, a new shape and size of the breast is formed. Excessive development of the mammary glands is influenced by a woman’s hormonal background, during pregnancy, general endocrine disorders and obesity. Therefore, when planning reduction mammoplasty, it is necessary to undergo a consultation with an oncologist-mammologist and undergo general clinical and laboratory examinations. After all the examinations, the plastic surgeon will evaluate the proportions of the body, the ratio of the sizes of the mammary glands, the thickness of the subcutaneous fatty tissue, the degree of prolapse and excess, and the condition of the skin of the mammary glands. Then the volume of the mammary glands is assessed and the patient’s wishes about the final result are clarified. The operation itself takes place under general anesthesia. The ideal method of breast reduction surgery is an operation that can solve the following problems:

  • reducing the volume of the mammary gland while ensuring normal nutrition of the remaining gland tissues and the nipple-areolar complex;
  • creating an aesthetically beautiful shape of the mammary glands with achieving their symmetry;
  • postoperative scars of minimal length with their location in the hidden zone;
  • preservation of sensitivity of the nipple, areola and skin of the gland;
  • maintaining the possibility of lactation;
  • sufficiently long-term preservation of the results of the operation.

Breast lift

— mastopexy, an operation designed to correct and aesthetically tighten sagging breast tissue. The main goal of a breast lift is to move the nipple-areolar complexes to a higher position, but we should not forget about the shape of the breast itself, which most harmoniously suits the patient’s given body type. Therefore, not all cases can be performed with a periareolar breast lift, which is characterized by fewer postoperative scars. In some cases, it is advisable to perform a lift along with breast augmentation, especially in cases where there is practically no glandular tissue. The implant will create volume and get more spectacular breast contours. If there is slight sagging of the mammary glands, then a circular breast lift is performed to reduce the size of the areolas. The incision is made only around the areola of the nipple; the scar after the operation is almost invisible. This method is not suitable for everyone; it will be used based on the anatomical characteristics of the patient. In cases of significant breast sagging, incisions are made not only around the areola of the nipple, but also vertical and possibly horizontal incisions. This type of breast lift surgery is done under general anesthesia.

Formation of the missing breast

- breast reconstruction, an operation aimed at restoring the breasts, which should look as similar to natural breasts as possible. There are several types of breast reconstruction: using a silicone prosthesis; at the expense of the patient’s own tissues; combined method using an implant and skin flap; stretching method followed by prosthetics. The purpose of breast reconstruction surgery is to recreate the volume of the breast, skin, nipple-areolar complex, aesthetic shape and physiological consistency. An implant is a simple form of breast reconstruction if there is enough skin left on the breast. This type of reconstruction will provide a good appearance of the breasts, but if you do not want to use implants and have a mammary gland consisting of your own tissue, then another operation is necessary, using a skin fat graft and muscle tissue. During the reconstruction process, tissues of the back or anterior abdominal wall, or the second mammary gland may be affected, if its shape needs to be adjusted.

Correction of nipples and areolas

— the operation is aimed at changing the shape, size, contour of the nipples and areolas. This type of plastic surgery is popular not only among women, but also among men who are also dissatisfied with the existing cosmetic defect, which often becomes the cause of complexes and uncertainty in patients. In some cases, after correction of the nipples, breastfeeding becomes impossible, since the intersection of the gland ducts leading to the nipple is possible. The operation can be performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia.

Correcting asymmetry

— the operation is aimed at restoring the symmetry of the mammary glands. Breast asymmetry may have genetic roots, and may also be caused by mastopathy, hormonal imbalance during menopause, scar changes after injuries, or various tumor processes. The most common cause of asymmetry is the consequences of breastfeeding, lactation features, improper pumping and uneven attachment of the baby to the breast. To eliminate breast asymmetry in plastic surgery, several methods are used:

  • installation of an implant under a smaller mammary gland;
  • installation of implants of different sizes in both breasts;
  • tightening of the larger gland;
  • installation of implants of the same size with simultaneous lifting of both mammary glands to varying degrees;
  • simultaneous lifting of both mammary glands with installation of an implant in the smaller breast;
  • installation of an implant in a smaller breast while simultaneously lifting a larger breast.

Breast reconstruction

Beautiful and healthy breasts are the pride of every woman. But it happens that the breasts become deformed or the woman loses them completely. This gives a woman a lot of worries, fears and complexes. Fortunately, today such problems are completely solvable - just contact a surgeon who will perform reconstructive breast surgery. An experienced specialist will return the lost forms, and the woman will again be able to feel full and happy!

Indications for reconstructive breast surgery :

  • "Gel breast syndrome";
  • Tubular breast deformity;
  • Loss of breasts.

“Gel breast syndrome” is soft tissue damage caused by polyacrylamide gel (PAAG) injections, which are used for non-surgical breast augmentation. Often, after such experiments, serious complications arise: inflammation, necrosis of gland tissue, movement of the gel to the ribs. This not only affects the aesthetic appearance of the breast, but also makes it painful, swollen, and hard. During reconstructive breast surgery, the surgeon removes gel masses and affected breast tissue. He then creates a cavity under the pectoral muscle and places the implant there. Thus, breast augmentation restores your breasts to a healthy and attractive appearance.

Tabular breast deformation - when the contour of the nipple areola stands out above the surface of the skin, and the breast itself takes on a tubular shape. To create a harmonious breast appearance, the surgeon makes incisions around the border of the areola and removes excess skin, after which he applies sutures.

Selection of implants

Breast implants vary in shape, filling, surface structure and manufacturer. The shape of implants for breast surgery can be anatomical and round:

Anatomical implants bring the breasts as close as possible to their natural contours and have a teardrop shape.

Advantages

  • imitate the shape of the breast as naturally as possible in a standing and sitting position;
  • suitable for women with initially small breasts.

Flaws

  • look unnatural when lying on your back;
  • limit the use of bras with a lifting effect;
  • more difficult to implant;
  • when the implant is rotated, the shape of the breast is deformed;
  • expensive.

Most suitable for women

  • having initially small breasts;
  • Visual imitation of natural breasts is extremely important.

Round implants have the shape of a ball, ideal for those who decide to enlarge their breasts.

Advantages

  • maximize breast enlargement;
  • lift the chest;
  • technically easier to implant;
  • relatively cheap.

Flaws

  • visually they do not look natural enough, with large volumes.

Undoubtedly, the choice of implant must be entrusted to a specialist - a plastic surgeon.

Possible complications with mammoplasty

  • wound infection;
  • formation of keloids and hypertrophic scars;
  • hematoma and seroma;
  • decreased or complete loss of sensitivity of the areolas and nipples;
  • temperature after mammoplasty;
  • capsular fibrous contracture;
  • implant rupture;
  • deformation of the endoprosthesis;
  • implant displacement;
  • double fold;
  • Calcification;
  • allergic reaction to the implant;
  • inability to perform mammography;
  • synmastia.

Many years of experience in performing breast augmentation operations show that the presence of implants does not in any way affect the course of pregnancy, fetal development, childbirth and the postpartum recovery period. The prosthesis does not interfere with breastfeeding.

Scars and stitches after breast surgery

Caring for postoperative sutures is very important, since scars on the chest can significantly spoil the results of plastic surgery. To prevent the formation of a rough and wide scar after breast surgery, it is necessary to fix the edges of the wound with special adhesive strips or adhesive tape to relieve the tension of the tissues on the sides of the scar, and also regularly wear specially selected compression garments (daily for the first month). Sutures are removed 7-10 days after mammoplasty; some surgeons use self-absorbable suture material. During the first month, scars can be sealed with a silicone patch, you can use Dermatix and Contractubex ointments. Previous use of ointment on an unformed scar can lead to the formation of a large and wide scar.

Reducing breast size

Reduction mammoplasty is a less popular operation and more traumatic than augmentation breast correction. The simplest and safest method is to remove part of the fatty tissue of the breast using liposuction. But this method will only help to slightly reduce breast size. To reduce the size more significantly, resection of part of the fatty tissue and glandular tissue is used through an incision:

  1. anchor;
  2. T-shaped;
  3. short (vertical).

Despite the fact that this type of breast size correction is simple to perform, recovery requires a long rehabilitation period.

Postoperative period after breast surgery

On average, recovery will take a month. The length of the rehabilitation period after mammoplasty is determined by the type of surgical intervention. After any mammoplasty surgery, you should stay in the hospital for one day, then go home. You can return to work within a few days.

The postoperative period is accompanied by swelling (sometimes bruising), bruising, pain and sensory disturbances. All these phenomena gradually go away within 2-3 weeks. The stitches are removed within 10-14 days. The breast takes on its final appearance 2-3 months after surgery.

To minimize the risk of complications in the postoperative period, you must:

  • eat well;
  • Wear special underwear constantly for a month, and then for another month only during the day, taking it off at night;
  • do not sleep on your stomach for 2 months;
  • exclude any physical impact on the chest area, visiting a bathhouse, solarium, or performing massage for 2 months;
  • be regularly examined by a doctor.
