Beauty algorithm: in what order to apply skin care products

In this article we will tell you how to properly and necessary care for your skin, especially now, in the summer. You will also learn about the main stages of care at home.

These rules apply to everyone, regardless of skin type or age. We individually select only cosmetics and care products based on your skin type.

The main rule No. 1 is regularity. Facial skin needs high-quality, gentle and daily care, which will take no more than 10 minutes.

Morning

One of the biggest misconceptions in the beauty world is that washing your face in the morning is not at all necessary, because dirt does not have time to accumulate on the skin overnight, and evening skincare products still continue to work. In fact, during sleep, sebum is produced as intensively as during the day, and dust from pillows penetrates into the pores, so morning washing is a separate and important ritual.

How to use facial toner correctly

When applying tonic to the face, it is recommended to follow a special algorithm:

  1. Treat the forehead in the direction from the center to the temples.
  2. Apply the product to the eye area, working from the inner corner of the eye to the outer corner. It is important to perform all manipulations with light movements. In this case, the eyelid should be closed.
  3. Treat the nose, starting from the eyebrow line, and gradually going down to its tip. Next you need to move from the sinuses towards the cheekbones.
  4. Rub your cheeks, moving from your upper lip to your earlobe.
  5. Treat the chin, moving from the center towards the ears.

The tonic is applied to the neck area with smooth movements, moving from the décolleté to the chin.

When to apply

Cosmetologists recommend using tonic daily: while washing your face in the morning and evening. In the early hours, the product helps prepare the facial skin for applying cosmetics, in the later hours it helps to completely eliminate impurities and enhance the effectiveness of the night nourishing cream. If it is necessary to apply and remove makeup several times a day, each such process should be accompanied by treatment with tonic. In the summer, the frequency of use of this product can be increased or supplemented with a refreshing tonic that effectively eliminates sweat, greasy shine and dirt.

If you have dry skin, it is not recommended to wipe your face with an alcohol-containing tonic more than once a day.

Do I need to wash off facial toner with water?

There is no need to rinse off the tonic applied to the skin. However, you must wait until this product is completely absorbed before using other moisturizing cosmetics. When applying a large amount of toner, excess can be removed with a cotton pad.

What to apply after facial toner

After the toner is fully absorbed, a moisturizing and nourishing product - serum or cream - is applied to the face.

Evening

You shouldn't neglect evening washing and facial skin care procedures, even if you've had a hard day at work or returned home after a stormy party. Overnight, residual makeup, sebum and dust will clog into the pores, cause inflammation and make the skin dull. Therefore, even if the prospect of quickly getting into bed is too tempting, take 15 minutes for yourself and your beauty. Despite the multi-step nature, evening care will not take much time, but the spartan “I’ll quickly wash my face with soap and forget about the cream” will only cause dryness and irritation.

What is the difference between toner and micellar water, lotion and toner?

The difference between tonic and toner, lotion and micellar water lies in their purpose and composition.

What is the difference

Micellar water is used at the initial stage of facial cleansing, tonic - at the final stage. The toner has a liquid consistency, while the toner has a thick consistency, which makes it ideal for caring for dry and sensitive skin. Unlike tonic, lotion is characterized by a high concentration of active ingredients, due to which it can perform several functions at once: remove makeup, remove residual impurities, refresh and moisturize the skin.

What's better

Since micellar water and toner perform different functions, you need to purchase both of these products. When choosing between toner, toner and lotion, you should take into account your skin characteristics.

Cream

The evening skin care ritual is completed with a cream, which should be chosen based on the problems and needs of the skin. According to dermatologists, the peak of cell renewal processes occurs from 23.00 to 04.00, so you should not neglect night products. You don’t need to apply a lot of cream either - it’s better to do it not right before bed, but at least half an hour before, so that you can blot off the excess with a paper napkin.

Before choosing evening care products, you need to determine your skin type, find out its problems and needs, and find out which components cannot be combined with each other - for example, acids and retinol. By adhering to this simple beauty algorithm, you will help your skin remain youthful and healthy and will not get confused among all the products that can now be found on store shelves.

How to choose a facial toner

When choosing a toner, it is recommended to consider several important factors:

  1. Skin type Dry – suitable compositions enriched with hyaluronic acid, glycerin and amino acids. It is best to give preference to options with a high content of natural oils and vitamins.
  2. Oily – products containing at least 50% alcohol are recommended.
  3. Sensitive - only delicate formulations enriched with soothing ingredients and nourishing oils are acceptable.
  4. Problematic - to care for this type, it is worth purchasing products with an exfoliating and astringent effect.
  5. Combined - it is recommended to use two types of tonic: for treating the T-zone - mattifying, for the U-zone - refreshing/moisturizing.

    Homemade lotion recipes

    As you already know, the lotion contains many active substances. When preparing lotions at home, most often this role is played by components of plant origin, such as chamomile, green tea, string, cucumber, and aloe. To enhance the cleansing and renewing effect, acids (citric, salicylic), apple cider vinegar or citrus juice (lemon, orange, grapefruit) are added to lotions.

    Homemade lotion recipes for normal and combination skin use aloe, cucumber juice, rose hips or linden blossom.

    Rose water is an excellent toner for dry and sensitive skin. Rose water can also be used to moisturize the skin throughout the day.

    Milk is another ingredient in a homemade toner that will help in adding extra hydration to your skin.

    1. To prepare a lotion for dry skin, mix 100 ml of milk with 2 tablespoons of chamomile, heat over low heat for half an hour, and then let sit for 2 hours. Strain and apply in the evenings for a month. Store the finished composition in the refrigerator for no more than one week.
    2. For a mattifying lotion for oily skin, mix 2 tablespoons of alcohol, 5 tablespoons of mint infusion and 10 drops of lemon juice. Let it brew for a day. Dilute the resulting concentrate with 100 ml of mineral water and use once a day.
    3. Lotion for normal skin can be prepared by mixing a teaspoon of strawberry juice with cucumber juice, 5 ml of vodka and 100 ml of water. Use once a day before bedtime.

    However, among ready-made cosmetics, there are many options for natural-based lotions. For example, mattifying facial lotion “Antibacterial effect” from One Hundred Beauty Recipes with lemon, mint and magnolia. This product effectively tightens pores, controls sebum production, tones and refreshes the skin.

    Is it possible to wipe the skin around the eyes: advice from a cosmetologist

    If toner is used as the main cleanser, it is necessary to select a product with the most neutral composition. Makeup is rarely limited to foundation and lipstick. Eye shadow, mascara and eyebrow gels must also be removed. Aggressive skincare products can cause irritation, allergies, itching, burning, conjunctivitis and other disorders.

    Therefore, it is necessary to remove eye makeup:

    1. Special products for delicate eyelid skin. They may be included in one line of drugs or sold separately. When purchasing, you also need to carefully study the composition. It is recommended to select only hypoallergenic tonics. After using the product, it is advisable to apply cream to the skin around the eyes.
    2. Milk labeled “suitable for the skin around the eyes.” There are more and more products of this type on the market, so to save time, shelf space and money, you can give preference to them.

    The delicate dermis of the eyelids is most susceptible to mechanical and chemical damage, so you need to apply the product to it with light movements of your fingers or soft napkins. Before first use, it is recommended to conduct a sensitivity test.

    Instructions on how to use

    Let's take a closer look at all the stages: from cleansing to completion of care.

    Preparing the skin for the procedure

    Before applying toner, you must thoroughly remove your makeup . Korean women first cleanse their face with hydrophilic oil or micellar water. After this, wash with a special gentle foam or gel.

    Then you need to pat your skin dry with a towel and immediately proceed to the next step - treating your face with toner.

    Application process

    You have three seconds to apply the product with your fingertips and distribute it evenly over the surface. There is no need to completely dry the skin after washing - the toner can be “sent” to the damp stratum corneum. So:

    1. Squeeze the product into the depression in your palm.
    2. Apply it drop by drop onto the skin, quickly distributing it over areas of the face. Do not touch the area around the eyes.
    3. “Knock in” the mixture by gently patting the surface of the skin with your fingers.
    4. Wait until the product dries.

    Important! It is recommended to carry out the procedure along massage lines, for example from the area near the wings of the nose and towards the ears.

    Examples of massage lines:

    Interesting! In Korean skincare, there is the so-called seven-layer rule. That is, you need to apply one layer of toner to the skin one after another, and be sure to let each of them dry. This method allows you to saturate the dermis with benefits quickly, and subsequent procedures can be carried out in minimal quantities. For example, it’s good to simply “seal” the result with a light caring fluid.

    Final stage

    After the skin has completely “eaten” the toner, you can apply serum, booster, concentrate and other products designed for deep nutrition and hydration. Next is the caring cream.

    All! You can apply decorative cosmetics!

    BEFORE and AFTER using toner

    When to use a toner with a lifting effect

    The lifting effect includes:

    • hydration;
    • toning;
    • satiety and nutrition;
    • lightening and removal of age spots;
    • relaxation of facial muscles.

    Anti-aging products usually contain hyaluronic acid, collagen, elastin, and peptides. Some manufacturers produce separate lines of moisturizing creams with hyaluronic acid. All of these ingredients are relatively safe for any skin over 18 years of age. But manufacturers recommend abandoning tightening drugs until the age of 25-30, since only by this age the main stages of epidermis formation are completed.

    Typically, a lifting tonic acts as a booster, that is, it enhances the effect of basic skincare medications. Therefore, using it separately without creams, serums and masks is ineffective. At the same time, it is necessary to include a tonic at the stage of intense exposure of beneficial substances to the dermis.

    Types of tonics

    The main rule when choosing a tonic is to focus on your skin type, otherwise this product will not fulfill its task or will not do it effectively enough. In order for the tonic to work one hundred percent, you must carefully read the label before purchasing, and then follow the instructions for its use.

    The toner effectively removes remnants of skin impurities and decorative cosmetics.

    For dry skin. Choose toners with powerful moisturizing ingredients such as glycerin, hyaluronic acid, amino acids, aloe juice or extract. Apply the product twice a day or more often, especially if you spend most of the day indoors with air conditioning or central heating, or in extreme climatic conditions (sharp temperature changes, hot or, conversely, frosty weather).

    For sensitive skin. Capricious skin will not be irritated by products with a delicate action and soft texture, sometimes slightly oily. When choosing a tonic, pay attention to the composition: it should contain components with a calming effect, for example, extracts of chamomile, cornflower or rose. Undesirable substances - parabens, perfumes, dyes.

    For oily skin. If you are bothered by oily shine and excess sebum, due to which makeup lasts for a maximum of an hour, a tonic with a sebum-regulating and mattifying effect is suitable. This effect is provided in particular by zinc. Products with moisturizing ingredients are also good for oily skin, because often such skin, strange as it may sound, suffers from dehydration.

    For problematic skin. The curse of this skin type is blackheads, rashes, inflammation, and excess sebum production. Toners with astringents and exfoliating components (salicylic acid, zinc, tea tree oil) will help keep the situation under control.

    For normal skin. All that a tonic can give to the happy owners of problem-free skin is cleansing, maintaining optimal moisture levels, softening, and replenishing with minerals and trace elements. All these needs will be satisfied by a tonic based on thermal spring water.

    For combination skin. If you have dry skin in the cheek area and oily skin in the forehead, nose and chin area, try using two toners at once in one session. Apply the moisturizing one to dry areas, and the mattifying sebum-regulating one to the T-zone. This is called multi-toning, that is, using two products of the same category at the same time.

    For aging skin. The main needs of aging and aging skin are lifting, increasing elasticity and density. This is facilitated by tonics with hyaluronic and glycolic acids, plus a special massage during application. Pay attention to products with a high content of antioxidants (vitamins C and E, resveratrol), especially if you live in a metropolis, often experience stress and get little sleep. Antioxidants in the toner will help fight the negative effects of the environment and delay the development of external signs of skin aging.

    Using a well-chosen toner, you will increase the effectiveness of your creams (day and night) significantly, because the skin will better perceive their active ingredients.

    Do I need to wash off the toner: its effect

    When choosing products, it is important to pay attention not only to the scope and purpose, but also to the composition. Safe ingredients can remain on the skin without the need to wash it off after application. If aggressive ingredients are found, it is better to refuse to purchase such cosmetics. In particular, it is not recommended to frequently and without rinsing use preparations that contain parabens and methylparaben, zinc sulfates and stearates, and heliotropin. The list of ingredients may also contain chemical fragrances that cause an allergic reaction.

    Instead of synthetic products, the use of thermal water is allowed. Pharmacy skincare products are also considered relatively safe. A sign that the product does not need to be washed off is the absence of stickiness and tightness, unpleasant greasy shine and the feeling of a mask.

    The features of moisturizing cream with urea are described in the link.

    And how to wash it off correctly

    If discomfort occurs, it is recommended to wash your face with water at a comfortable temperature. It is advisable to carry out the procedure with soft massage movements without using soap. It is allowed to use a special sponge or sponge in the process.

    Rinsing may also be necessary if there is excess product. In this case, it is recommended to use a tampon, napkin or cotton pad without using any liquid or preparations to cleanse the skin. It is important to avoid aggressive mechanical action in order not to disturb the pH balance and protective layer, as well as to avoid external damage to the dermis.

    conclusions

    1. Tonics have cleansing, moisturizing, refreshing and toning properties for the skin.
    2. Correct application of the drug is the key to preserving the protective layer of the epidermis and neutralizing aggressive components and water hardness.
    3. The product is a booster and enhances the effect of intensive skin care products.
    4. During the day you need to use tonics at least twice. In the summer, the number of applications increases many times over. After use, it is recommended to apply moisturizing or nourishing creams (for example, Dove nourishing cream).

    What can be used instead of toner: hydrolate, gel or lotion

    This is not the only means for effective toning and preparation for moisturizing. As an alternative, use lotion, gel or hydrosol that has a similar consistency and composition. Find out the difference between a tonic and a lotion by following the link.

    If you do not trust industrial cosmetics, you can replace them at home with the following analogues:

    • green tea;
    • decoction of chamomile;
    • a mixture of lemon and grapefruit juice;
    • cucumber water;
    • herbal infusion.

    There is a wide range of similar products on the market, from which you can choose the composition for any skin.

    Results

    1. Facial toner is a caring product for regular care. Necessary for removing makeup residues, normalizing the functioning of the sebaceous glands and preparing for applying cream.

    3. It is advisable to apply twice a day – morning and evening. In summer, the number of procedures can be increased.
    4. The product does not need to be washed off after use. You must wait until it is completely absorbed before proceeding with the next steps of facial care.
