For grooming and beauty, many women sacrifice time, effort and finances. Removing unwanted body hair is one such sacrifice. An electrical device will help you carry out the hair removal procedure, leaving your skin smooth and clean for a long time. The device is a small rectangular box with a screen, adjustment buttons, and a connector for a holder with a needle. The kit includes a set of disposable needles for manipulations on the body, a bandage with a neutral electrode for the arm. An electric epilator is capable of destroying the hair follicle with a discharge of electric current. It reaches the root bulb through a thin needle, which is inserted under the skin. The procedure, according to most women, is considered the most effective for removing hair on the legs, arms, armpits, bikini, and face.
How to choose a device for your home?
The best option is to use tweezer electroepilators, which do not destroy the follicle, but injure it. This makes the procedure itself safe and painless. You can also use a needle type of electric epilator, but only if you have experience working with such equipment, since the woman’s safety and health depends on it.
But there are a number of parameters that are worth paying attention to:
- Speed. Most epilators operate at 2 speeds. The first is used when working with thin hairs, the second is more suitable for coarse and thick ones. At first, experts, while there is no experience, advise working with the device at first speed.
- Brand. It is better to choose products from trusted brands - in this case, the quality of the device and a long period of use are guaranteed.
- Design. The main thing when buying an epilator is the technical characteristics of the device. However, the comfort of use depends on the shape of the device. Therefore, before purchasing equipment, it is recommended to hold the device in your hands for a while and evaluate its convenience.
- Price. You should not buy a cheap device. Most often, such electric epilators do not differ in quality and reliability, and will not last long.
Rating
- “Shmel 1000” is the best Russian device for professional and home use due to its ease of control and the most efficient flash-type operation.
- The Spanish brand Ross is ideal for professional work.
- "Galatea" is another domestic device for professionals.
You can make an expensive device with your own hands, which will require a metal spoon, a battery, wires, a needle holder and a set of thin corners. But still, if you do not have engineering and technical skills, then it is better to purchase a ready-made factory electric epilator so as not to risk your health.
Operating principle of the devices
The operation of electric epilators is based on the use of electric current. The devices deliver shocks into the hair follicles through thin needles or tweezers. Due to the impact, the follicles are destroyed forever. This method is effective for any zones.
It is possible to treat a small area in one session. Each hair is processed separately. For 100% effect, a full course of procedures is required. It lasts 1-1.5 years.
Thermolysis
Alternately passes high-frequency current discharges into the hair. The technology promotes the complete destruction of follicles. Among its disadvantages, patients note that it is painful to use. It is not always possible to get rid of hair the first time.
Electrolysis
Direct current affects the hair, entering through the skin. The needle penetrates the epidermis, so epilation does not cause pain. The session lasts for a long time. It takes 0.5-1 minutes to process each hair.
Bland
The current supply has a reduced amplitude. The method is recognized as optimal for combating ingrown hairs. The thermal effect that occurs during the process activates the rapid formation of alkali. This feature speeds up the destruction process. The exposure time on hair is reduced to 10 seconds.

Flash
Subtype of thermolysis. It produces electric shock in short bursts, but at a higher frequency. Needle electroepilators of this type have positive reviews. According to them, the procedure causes less discomfort and is highly effective.
Sequential blend
This is an improved version of the blend . During hair removal, the amplitude of the current to destroy the bulb slowly decreases. The patient feels almost no pain.
Sequential flash
This is a modified version of flash . Its distinctive feature is its accelerated action and periodic change in the period of follicle treatment. The method allows taking into account the patient's characteristics. It makes it possible to choose the operating mode in accordance with the thickness and structure of the hair shaft.
What it is?
A thin needle is inserted under the skin into the follicle area and electric current discharges through it. High temperature kills both the hair body and the bulb without the possibility of recovery. High temperature copes with dark, thin and thick, gray, bleached hair, in a word, with absolutely any hair. In one session, a small area of skin is treated, since each follicle has to be affected separately. 100% hair removal results are achieved after a course of procedures, which can last for a year and a half.
Device selection criteria
For home use, electric epilators are suitable, which remove hair by injuring the hair follicles . Types that completely destroy follicles are created for professional use. It is recommended to consider tweezer devices. They are equipped with a head with a large number of tweezers. They injure the follicle without destroying it completely.
Using a needle electroepilator on your own is only permissible if the girl has learned how to use it in advance. She must take responsibility for her safety and health. In cosmetology courses, you can gain knowledge of the depth of needle insertion and the power of current supply.
The parameters that are recommended to pay attention to when choosing are presented in the table:
Criterion | Description |
Brand | It is recommended to buy devices from well-known companies. This guarantees a long period of uninterrupted operation and the quality of the device. |
Speed | Most often, epilators have only 2 speeds. One is for thick and coarse hair, and the other is for fine hair. Experts recommend that beginners work at speed 1. |
Appearance | Technical characteristics are the main thing when purchasing equipment. But ease of use depends on the design and shape. Therefore, before purchasing an epilator, I advise you to take the device in your hand. |
Price | Don't go after cheap prices. Such electric epilators are of low quality. They are characterized by poor efficiency and quickly fail. |
Guide to using different types of epilators
Electroepilator for home use is rarely used for the face, legs and bikini area. At the same time, there are many positive reviews about the procedure on the Internet. Users note that they can master the technology in 6-7 sessions.
After several training sessions, it is possible to find the required current power, insertion depth and exposure time. Before starting, it is important to carefully study the instructions for the device.
Procedure steps to be followed:
- Plug in the epilator.
- Insert the needle into the holder.
- Treat the surface with hair with an antiseptic.
- Lower the needle to a depth of 0.5 mm into the pore where the hair grows. For the closest possible insertion into the bulb, the instrument should penetrate in the direction of hair growth.
- To apply current, you need to press the plate. As soon as the required amount of time specified in the instructions for the device has passed, the pulse stops being given.
- Hair is removed with tweezers. After a properly performed session, the hair is easily removed.
- Repeat manipulations with other hair. You should make an indent of 3-5 mm from the treated area.
Thermolysis electroepilators
I did not consider purchasing any of these devices; they all implement only thermolysis hair removal mode, which is not suitable for hair with curved follicles.
Gezatone DE300 (France)
Almost never considered for purchase. There is nothing about it on the manufacturer’s website, and Google only returns Russian-language online stores. Most likely, these are warehouse remains. The device has a thermolysis mode and that’s it.
MTUSI EHVCh-12, EHVCh-20 and EHVCh-50 (Russia)
MTUSI electric epilators use conventional thermolysis and are filled with tungsten thread (it is possible to purchase a separate holder for needles). All epilators have two outputs with different power outputs: the first is for epilation, the second is for coagulation. The model number indicates the maximum power output, but for successful electrolysis, more is not better. Despite the cost of the devices, it can only operate in thermolysis mode.
Ross Kh-12 plus (Italy)
This is an old model from an Italian manufacturer of electroepilators with a single program for electrolysis using the thermolysis method. Now on the manufacturer’s website there is information only about the flagship model DEPILPLUS 13MHz worth about 250 thousand rubles. The old model can be found for sale on message boards, but the price for its functionality is steep.
Models
"Bumblebee 1000"

MTUSI EHVCh-12, EHVCh-20 and EHVCh-50
The device, depending on the power, is used not only for hair removal. Thus, EHVC-20 can be used as a coagulator and sclerosator. EHVC-50 is equipped with a fulgurator function.
You need to start the session with the lowest pulse power. After completion, check how well the hair is removed. If it is difficult to remove hairs, increase the power gradually.
In the process, the needle penetrates in the direction of hair growth. Processing the bulb lasts 1-2 seconds. The operation of the device is controlled by pressing the pedal. It is recommended to reduce the risk of damage to the integument by turning on the device when the needle is already inserted into the bulb. The duration of one facial procedure is 15 minutes. You can treat the skin on the body for half an hour.
Ross Kh-12 plus
This device is recognized as one of the safest. It is reliable and easy to use. Price: 50,000 rub.
The epilator manufacturer offers several ways to operate the device:
- Monitoring the operating time of the electrode using the included timer.

DE-228 CARAT
The device performs several functions. In addition to hair removal, it is suitable for the darsonvalization procedure. The manufacturer notes that the epilator is suitable for home use. However, it is not necessary to take special courses. If you follow the instructions for use, you can easily get rid of unwanted hair forever.
Instructions for use:
- First, the device is set up.
- The needle is inserted in the direction of hair growth until an obstacle appears.
- Press the key to turn on the device.
After the procedure, you need to pull out the treated hair with tweezers. If the current was sufficient, they come out easily. Otherwise, it is necessary to increase the impulse strength and duration of exposure. Feeling uncomfortable during the process is unacceptable. Approximate cost – 17,000 rubles.
Shmel-1000
The electric epilator for home use has a combined effect. It performs not only flash hair removal, but also coagulation. The manufacturer promises that after the procedure there will be no pigment spots or burns. In this case, you need to conduct the session correctly.
During use, pain is minimal. The device has high power and an automatic operating period setting mode. Cost from 32,000 to 38,000 rubles.
Biomak EP 300 and 400
The device is equipped with a comfortable handle and a long cord. Simply setting the required parameters makes it convenient to use at home. The cost starts from 15,000 rubles.
The device is controlled in 2 ways:
- manually;
- automatically.
The latter mode requires a special approach. It is necessary to catch the rhythm of the current supply in order to have time to insert the needle. Otherwise you may get burned. Biomak emits a beep which indicates that the job is complete. This feature makes using the electroepilator yourself easier.
Rating of the best blend electric epilators
The use of sequential mixed technology involves filling the hair follicle with alkali, and then heating it with current. The technique increases the effect of electrolysis. At the same time, the risk of burns increases.
Biomak EP 200
The device has 3 operating modes that you can select yourself. It takes longer to achieve a good result than with other epilators. After all, 2 technologies are used to remove hair.
Focusing on the individual characteristics of the body, you can select the ratio of electrolysis and thermolysis. This opportunity appeared thanks to a special built-in module. Price – 19,000 rubles.
Galatea POLLY RE
The device operates on the principle of 3 hair removal techniques: flash, blend and thermolysis. The manufacturer warns that the device can only be used by a person who has completed professional courses. The combination of several technologies has led to changes in how the procedure is performed.
Features of hair removal using Galatea:
- Blend mode. Be sure to connect a neutral electrode to the body.
- Thermolysis and flash. There is no need to connect an electrode. The output signal has approximately 30% less power.
Severe discomfort during hair removal requires reducing the pulse power. In this case, the time of exposure to current increases. Achieving good results is possible only with several courses of hair removal. The duration of each of them varies from 12 to 18 months. A long period is associated with uneven hair growth and the follicles being in a dormant state. The price of the device is 52,000 rubles.
The choice of electric epilators for home use should be approached with special attention. It is important to study the features of each model. This is the only way to choose the right device.
The result depends on the quality of the procedure performed. Therefore, before use, you must carefully read the instructions. Simple rules will help avoid consequences.

Features of using an electronic epilator for depilation
Epilation is a painful process. It is recommended to use anesthetics before the procedure. It usually takes 30-60 minutes, depending on the area of the body and the sensitivity of the skin. If the session is carried out correctly, there are no side effects. Experts say that electrolysis is a universal method that allows you to remove unwanted hairs in any area. However, it should be remembered that after manipulation the skin will be reddened, especially in the intimate area. They require a special approach from a cosmetologist.
Operating principle and result
Depilation can be carried out not only using factory-made devices, but also those made independently. The method uses an electrical discharge that destroys the root of the rod. After such exposure, the hairs stop growing. To completely clean a certain area, up to 5-6 procedures are required. A thin needle is carefully inserted into the area of the hair follicle. An electric discharge of a certain power is carried out through it. This destroys the body of the hair shaft, preventing it from recovering. The removal method is successfully carried out on any hair type. Over a long period of time, only a small area can be treated, since the needle is applied to each hair separately. Complete removal, for example on the legs, can be achieved in 8-12 months. However, even after this, new rods can grow. This occurs as a result of their “dormant” state during electrolysis. After the procedure, you should take a break for 1-2 months so that the epithelial cells can recover.
During manipulations with the device there should not be unbearable pain. If this happens, you should immediately reduce the power of the device.
Thermolysis
This is a process of alternating exposure to high-frequency electric current applied to the follicle with a thin medical needle. An effective procedure that completely destroys the hair root. Epilation is carried out with painful sensations. Often hairs cannot be removed immediately. This occurs when the follicle is curved, which is the result of deformation of the papilla with wax, sugar caramel or a razor. Thermolysis sessions are usually carried out by a specialist in a beauty salon. Removal is suitable for all hair types. It is not recommended to perform it at home to avoid the risk of burns.
Electrolysis
The method is practically painless, suitable for women with little hair and high sensitivity. The downside is the duration of the procedure and discomfort when inserting the needle. Constant current power is supplied through the top into the follicle sac. Electrical voltage produces sodium ions, which, together with tissue fluid, are converted into alkali. It fills the canals and leads to a burn of the follicle. This makes it easy to remove the rod.
Blend
The method combines thermolysis and electrolysis. The hair follicles are exposed to high frequency current and are destroyed by alkaline acid produced through electrolysis. The device is configured automatically. This takes into account the characteristics of the skin, the level of pain threshold and hair type. Impact on the hair for 5 to 10 seconds. The advantage of the method is that it is slightly painful. This occurs as a result of a reduction in the power of the variable frequency current. The traumatic impact is reduced, since the tissues surrounding the follicle are not cauterized.
Flash
The method is a type of thermolysis. A distinctive feature is the use of current of increased frequency and a reduced supply time. Flashes from 0.1 to 0.01 seconds. Suitable for working with fine hair. Before using this method, you should correctly select the ratio of current intensity and periods of its exposure. This will help to carry out the procedure as efficiently as possible without getting burned. High frequency electric current operates in short and powerful bursts. The follicle is destroyed. The speed of exposure prevents tissue cells from heating up and getting burned. Advantage: high speed of work, insignificant pain during the session. Disadvantage: affecting large hair follicles, there is a risk of burns.
Advantages and disadvantages
Electric hair removal is an effective way to remove body hair and has its own advantages:
- recommended for all skin and hair types;
- suitable for gray and light hair;
- used on all parts of the body;
- can be used in the nose, ears;
- ideally removes all hair;
- carried out not only in beauty salons, but also at home;
- The device can be designed independently.
Disadvantages include:
- soreness;
- for smoothness, a full course of electrolysis is carried out;
- cannot be combined with other methods;
- in one session only 30-40% of the skin surface is treated;
- the interval between complete treatment of one area is from 2 to 6 months, until “dormant” hairs begin to grow;
- expensive services of a master;
- session duration;
- for home hair removal, the device is expensive;
- has a weak result after using wax or caramel.
Indications
Electrical hair removal is a universal method that is used for hair of any type. Suitable for any skin, including sensitive types. Can be used on the bikini area, underarms, face, arms and legs.
Are there any contraindications
Like any other method, it has contraindications:
- pregnancy;
- breast-feeding;
- cardiovascular diseases;
- nervous disorders;
- skin disease;
- warts, moles, papillomas, birthmarks;
- varicose veins;
- oncological diseases.
The method may also cause side effects:
- acne;
- redness;
- pustules;
- swelling;
- burns;
- dark spots;
- enlarged pores;
- scarring.
Types of electric epilators and their features
There are several types of electric epilators - the features of the products need to be known in advance in order to choose the appropriate option.
Needle-shaped
Needle electroepilators are considered effective. When using the devices, a thin needle is inserted into the follicle to a depth of 0.5 mm, applying current. Such devices are used in specialized salons due to their high cost.
Divided into the following types:
- Thermolysis. Represents an alternating effect of current. It is the most effective procedure, completely removing the hair follicle. The thermolysis procedure is painful, and it is not possible to remove the follicle the first time.
- Electrolysis. A painless technique based on applying current through the surface of the epithelium. During electrolysis, the needle is not inserted under the skin, so its integrity is not compromised. The supplied current produces sodium ions, which, when combined with tissue fluid, form an alkali that “kills” the follicles.
- The “blend” method combines the procedures listed above. Hair follicles are heated by electric current and then destroyed by alkaline acid.
Needles for needle electroepilators are made of medical steel, coated with Teflon (suitable for those who do not tolerate pain well), gold-plated needles are suitable for allergy sufferers.
Tweezers
The technique of electroepilators with tweezers is as follows: each hair is captured with tweezers, through which a current is passed every 2-3 minutes. The procedures performed using the equipment are safe and do not cause pain.
As beauty industry experts note, using a tweezer epilator can hardly be called effective. And all because the current does not reach the follicle - the hairs do not conduct it, which is why the follicle is not destroyed 100%. To solve this problem, a special gel was invented that improves the passage of current.
How to use it correctly at home?
The electrolysis procedure at home will be of high quality if you strictly follow all the important rules and properly prepare for the procedure.
General rules
After purchasing the device, you need to purchase an anesthetic drug. Most often they use Lidocaine or Emla ointment. Whatever product is used, it is used to treat the skin an hour before the procedure.
And to avoid an allergic reaction to the product, you must first test it on a small area. Before the procedure, be sure to treat the needles with alcohol to avoid infection.
After this, epilation is carried out. Upon completion, the skin will be reddish and swollen - you should not be afraid of this, this is how the body reacts to the procedure. The redness will go away in a couple of days. The event can be repeated after 20-25 days, but no later than after 2 months. If you regularly perform hair removal, then after an average of 10 sessions you can forget about the vegetation in the treated area for several years.
After electrolysis, slight redness of the skin may appear - this is a completely normal reaction.
Remember about contraindications that do not depend on the electrolysis method. It is not recommended to carry out the procedure on inflamed areas of the skin, especially if it is viral in nature. Hair removal is also contraindicated for those who:
- suffered a stroke;
- has diseases of the cardiovascular and endocrine systems;
- suffers from varicose veins.
Preparation for the process
The hair removal procedure does not require long preparation. It is important to keep your skin clean. Therefore, if possible, it is worth taking a bath and using a scrub that will remove the dead skin layer, which will simplify hair removal.
Remember that the length of the hairs should be at least 3 mm, but the most acceptable option is about 5-6 mm.
If you are afraid of pain, you can give local anesthesia using lidocaine cream or spray. In special salons, injections of Lidocaine or Ultracaine are used for this.
How to proceed during the procedure?
Using an electric epilator may have a number of nuances, which are described in more detail in the instructions. However, the general guidance is as follows:
- Connect the device to the network and install the needle in the holder. Treat your skin with an antiseptic in advance. Insert the needle into the pore to a depth of about 0.5 mm. Moreover, this should be done only in the direction of hair growth, which will allow you to get as close as possible to the follicle.
- Press the current supply plate and release after the time specified in the instructions.
- Remove the hair with tweezers - if it comes out easily, it means the procedure was carried out correctly. Repeat the procedure with other hairs, retreating 5 mm.
Follow-up skin care
The skin recovers after hair removal within a week. To prevent the process from being delayed, you need to follow simple care rules:
- the treated areas of skin should not come into contact with water in the next 24 hours;
- in the first 3 days you should avoid taking a bath, using perfume or cream;
- within 4-5 days after hair removal, you need to treat the skin with an antiseptic, which will avoid infection;
- Do not sunbathe for a week after the procedure, otherwise pigment spots may appear;
- You should refrain from any physical activity - this will cause sweating, which will make the recovery process longer;
- the crusts that appear cannot be peeled off - scars often form in their place;
- Do not touch the skin with dirty hands - this increases the risk of infection;
- You should take care that underwear and clothes do not rub areas of the skin after hair removal; it is better to choose loose items.
Skin care after the procedure
After electrolysis, the skin is all micro-traumaed and requires special care. Therefore, you need to be especially careful not to get infected.
Try until the wounds heal:
- Do not visit any open bodies of water, including swimming pools. In such places there are a lot of microbes that can cause infection.
- Do not go to baths and saunas. In such places you can not only become infected, but also get folliculitis. Elevated temperatures contribute to inflammation of the follicles.
- Avoid tanning. You should not only walk in the open sun, but also visit solariums. Here, too, folliculitis may appear, as well as burns and irritation.
- Don't wear tight clothes. It should not rub or squeeze the epilated areas. Underwear and other things should not be synthetic.
- Avoid using chemicals and cosmetics. It is worth doing without deodorants, perfumes, and decorative cosmetics (if hair removal occurred on the face).
Do not peel off the crusts under any circumstances. If you do this, you will definitely have scars in the future.
For a speedy recovery after electrolysis, it is advisable to treat all areas with a wound-healing cream. It is important to soften and moisturize the dermis.
If after the first salon procedure you received numerous burns, you should not contact the same cosmetologist again. This outcome is a sign of a lack of professionalism on the part of the master. If this embarrassment occurred during self-electrolysis, then next time try to clearly study the instructions and reduce the current strength and shorten the time of exposure to the electric pulse.
In case of burns on the skin, they should be lubricated with panthenol, rescuer and any other anti-inflammatory cream containing herbal components.
Rating of the TOP 3 best thermolysis electric epilators
When choosing a technique, it is necessary to take into account that the main advantage of thermolysis is speed and efficiency. Large areas of skin are treated in a short period of time. However, this is a very painful procedure that can lead to severe skin burns.
Gezatone DE300 (France)
A needle home electroepilator helps get rid of even “difficult” unwanted hair. Thanks to computer control, you can use different programs to set the optimal operating mode. The degree and period of current exposure is regulated. During the hair removal process, you can use two operating modes:
- THERMOLYSIS – alternating high-frequency current is used for thermal destruction of hair follicles;
- in the COAGULTION mode, short bursts of pulses are applied to the hairs to thermally destroy the follicles.
When choosing operating modes of the Gezatone device, one must take into account that THERMOLYSIS has a short period of action, but the sensations are quite painful. The desired effect will not be achieved with curved follicles (damaged by previous hair removal). The COAGULTION method is not so traumatic and very effective.
MTUSI EHVCh-12, EHVCh-20 and EHVCh-50 (Russia)
Depending on the power, the devices can be used for other purposes. EHVC-20 also works as a sclerosator/coagulator. The professional apparatus EHVCh-50 also has the functions of a fulgurator and a coagulator. Start work at minimum power. If the hairs are not removed freely after the procedure, the power is gradually increased. During hair removal, a special needle is inserted in the direction of hair growth. Using the pedal, the device is turned on and a period of 1-2 seconds is maintained. To minimize skin damage, the electronic epilator is turned on and off only when the needle is inserted into the follicle. When treating the facial area, the duration of one session should not exceed 10-15 minutes. A session of hair removal from areas of the body can last up to 30 minutes.
Ross Kh-12 plus (Italy)
For hair removal, manufacturers offer two options for operating the Ross device:
- the operating time of the electrode is determined by a specialist by pressing the pedal;
- include a timer, which controls the period of operation of the electrode.
This is the simplest and most reliable electronic device.
The essence of the procedure
A needle or threads are inserted into the hair follicle through which an electric current passes. Due to high temperature exposure and electrical impulse, it is destroyed. Scorched bulbs are not capable of regeneration for a long time, so hair growth stops.
Progress of the procedure:
- Disinfection. During the session, the epidermis is damaged by electrodes, so it is first disinfected with antiseptics. Manipulation is required so that microbes located on the surface of the skin do not penetrate the pores and wounds. Otherwise, the infection may spread and inflammation may develop.
- Anesthesia. After disinfecting the area, it is numbed. The cosmetologist uses lidocaine aerosols and anesthetic creams. If the skin is too sensitive, a lidocaine injection is given.
- Electrolysis. The client lies down on the couch, picks up and squeezes the neutral electrode. It creates an electric field between it and the body. The device conducts current to the electrodes. The master inserts threads or a needle into the hair follicle to burn it out. The hairs die instantly and are then removed with tweezers.
- Completion. After hair removal, the areas are treated with disinfectant talc, wound-healing preparations and moisturizing creams are applied.
The procedure time depends on the hair removal method and the amount of work. On average, a session takes 1-2 hours (depending on the zone).
Types of electrolysis
It doesn’t matter whether the electrolysis device is used at home or in a salon, all methods are divided into two main types: hair removal using tweezers or a needle. Further there are only variations of these tweezers or needles.
Tweezers
To supply current to the follicle using this method, the hair is grabbed with tweezers-electrode, through which the charge passes. But in order for the hair root to really collapse, the charging time should be 1.5-2 minutes. Therefore, tweezer electrolysis is not very suitable for treating large areas of the body and, in principle, is not very popular. But it is the most painless.
