Women's intimate plastic surgery
– is the correction of external and internal forms of the genital organs for aesthetic and medical purposes. Intimate plastic surgery allows you to make the shape of the external labia neat, eliminate congenital or acquired anatomical defects (for example, postpartum), and improve the quality of sexual life. The latter is possible not only due to the fact that correction of the labia and vagina allows you to get rid of psychological discomfort and self-doubt. Deformations of the genital organs: stretching and drooping of the vaginal walls, disruption of innervation and decreased sensitivity due to abnormalities - prevents a woman from enjoying sex with a partner.
Experienced and highly qualified plastic surgeons and gynecologists at the Pirogov Clinic perform all types of intimate plastic surgery - labiaplasty
(improving the appearance of the labia),
narrowing of the vaginal walls, intimate plastic surgery after childbirth. Intimate contouring
with fillers with hyaluronic acid, mesotherapy, plasmolifting in gynecology can also solve functional and aesthetic problems associated with age-related changes in intimate tissue and anorgasmia. Our gynecologists also widely use these minimally invasive (injection) methods in their practice. During the consultation, the doctor will select the optimal type of intimate plastic surgery.
When is intimate plastic surgery done?
- Too large or small labia, asymmetry or other defects that cause discomfort;
- The vagina is too wide;
- Physiological defects of the clitoris;
- Postpartum anatomical deformations, injuries;
- Age-related changes in the tissues of the intimate area (loss of tone, dryness);
- Partial defloration at the first sexual intercourse, the need for surgical dissection of the hymen.
- The need to restore the hymen.
Intimate plastic surgery is done in case of dissatisfaction with the appearance of the genital organs and the quality of sexual life.
What are intimate (genital) plastic surgery?
The female external genitalia is represented by the vulva, which consists of skin folds surrounding and covering the vaginal passage - the labia minora and majora. In its upper part there is a small sensitive clitoris (more precisely, its outer part), which plays an important role in the formation and satisfaction of sexual arousal. Under normal conditions, it is covered with a small fold of skin that protects it from damage. In girls who have not had sexual intercourse, the entrance to the vagina is closed by an elastic membrane (the hymen), which stretches or tears during the first sexual intercourse or masturbation.
Despite the common structure of the external intimate organs for all healthy women, they can differ in appearance - in particular, in the size, length and color of the labia, the size and location of the clitoris, etc. Their appearance is influenced by genetics, age-related changes, the level of sexual activity, birth of children and many other factors. Because of this, some women, even in the absence of objective anatomical pathologies, are dissatisfied with the appearance of their genitals. Against this background, self-doubt and problems with self-esteem may develop - and, as a result, isolation, avoidance of new acquaintances and relationships.
Intimate plastic surgery is a branch of surgery and gynecology that deals with the correction of the external genitalia. It includes a wide range of surgical techniques that allow you to transform their anatomical structure and appearance. In addition to purely aesthetic purposes, the use of genital plastic surgery also includes the following medical indications:
- vaginal prolapse and uterine prolapse (prolapse);
- urinary incontinence due to decreased muscle tone in the intimate area;
- the appearance of scars due to tissue rupture (for example, during childbirth, injury or aggressive sexual contact);
- insufficient narrowing of the vagina during the postpartum period;
- vaginal stenosis (narrowing) or abnormally thick hymen, preventing the passage of menstrual fluid;
- insufficient or absent clitoral sensitivity;
- abnormal size and shape of the labia;
- excess pubic fat;
- the vaginal opening is too large, which causes frequent bacterial vaginitis (inflammations).
These anomalies, depending on their nature and severity, have a negative impact on sexual or reproductive function. Thus, insufficient sensitivity of the clitoris leads to the inability to receive sexual pleasure, dryness and stenosis of the vagina can cause discomfort and pain when moving or during sexual intercourse, problems with conception, etc. In addition, too large labia or the clitoris can cause discomfort in everyday life - for example, when walking or running.

Reduction of labia minora
The increased size of the labia minora is often congenital and sometimes results from hormonal imbalances. This feature can cause discomfort when wearing trousers and underwear, and often reduces the quality of intimate life. After the operation, the labia minora cease to protrude beyond the labia majora and acquire a more beautiful and neat shape. The operation does not require the use of general anesthesia. The intervention is painless, using safe local anesthesia. No stitches are required, and after just a few hours you can return to your normal life.

Narrowing of the vaginal walls
Surgery to narrow the vaginal walls is primarily performed to improve the quality of sexual life. Often the size of the vagina increases after childbirth, but muscle weakness can be congenital or caused by deficiencies in female hormones. The operation to narrow the vagina also has medical significance, since it is performed for the prevention or complex treatment of prolapse of internal organs. The operation is performed under general anesthesia, leaving no traces of the intervention.
What is especially important is that the woman can subsequently give birth to a child without the need for a caesarean section.
Causes
During pregnancy and childbirth, both components of the pelvic floor are damaged to varying degrees. It is customary to distinguish two groups of factors leading to pathology.
- The first is predisposing factors. This is, first of all, a genetic predisposition, i.e. features of genes encoding the composition and properties of connective and muscle tissue in women. Some recover easily and fully after childbirth, while others take a long time and not fully.
- The second group is provoking factors. This is, first of all, how the birth proceeds, how correctly the process is managed both by the staff and by the woman in labor: the duration of the head position, the timeliness of the episiotomy, the usefulness of the restoration of the perineum, etc.
Intimate plastic surgery after childbirth
During pregnancy and childbirth, the tissues of the intimate area, including the vagina, stretch. Gradually (within 6 months) they return to normal - the anatomy of the genital organs is restored. However, if the elasticity of the fibers is insufficient or the child is too large, the tissues tear. The injured tissue becomes scarred, and sometimes, to facilitate childbirth, the obstetrician makes an incision in the perineum. Intimate plastic surgery after childbirth is aimed at restoring deformed tissues.
Depending on the specifics of the problem, the following is performed:
- Labiaplasty;
- Perineoplasty –
restoration of the perineum; - Colpoplasty is
surgery on the vagina.
Contraindications to plastic surgery of intimate organs
This procedure also has its limitations - both relative and absolute. The most common ones include:
- benign and malignant tumors of various etiologies;
- kidney diseases - renal failure, nephritis and other pathologies;
- chronic diseases that have become acute;
- inflammation of the venous walls with the formation of blood clots (thrombophlebitis);
- various psycho-emotional disorders (depression, schizophrenia, etc.);
- increased risk of keloid scar formation due to tissue damage;
- infectious diseases of the genital organs and the body as a whole;
- severe allergic reaction to anesthetics;
- acute and chronic heart pathologies in moderate and severe forms;
- minor age.
Some of these contraindications (for example, infections and inflammation of the genital organs) are relative - that is, after an appropriate course of treatment or self-elimination of the pathology, surgery can be performed. In other cases, plastic surgery of the intimate area is impossible in principle.
Before performing such an operation, the doctor prescribes a course of diagnostic procedures for the patient. As a rule, it includes a gynecological examination, analysis of urine and blood samples, ultrasound of the pelvic organs, vaginal smear examination, CT scan, ECG. If a woman has health problems, she may be prescribed additional examinations, depending on the nature of the pathology. Only after the patient has completed a diagnostic course and the doctor makes sure there are no contraindications can the operation itself be performed

Intimate contouring
Intimate contouring is a minimally invasive (injection) method of correcting certain areas (labia, vagina, clitoris) with fillers with hyaluronic acid. The procedure is effective for minor deformities and makes the tissue more elastic, toned and youthful. The drugs stimulate the production of your own collagen and elastin, replenish volumetric deficits and restore water balance. The effect is thus comparable to mesotherapy. Sometimes intimate contouring is combined with functional and aesthetic surgeries.
Intimate plastic surgery with fillers allows you to:
- Correct the shape of the labia and clitoris;
- Make the soft tissues of the vagina more toned and moisturized;
- Increase the sensitivity of the G spot;
- Eliminate age-related changes;
- Narrow the vagina.

The only drawback of injection procedures is their temporary effect. It is possible that intimate plastic surgery with fillers will need to be repeated annually.
Types of operations
Intimate plastic surgery includes various surgical operations - the use of a specific manipulation depends on the nature of the problem and the desired effect. Such procedures include the following.
Contour plastic surgery of the intimate area . This operation consists of introducing components (in particular, hyaluronic acid) into the tissues of the vulva and vagina, filling the space between the cells and stimulating the production of collagen. Thanks to these effects, you can increase the tone and elasticity of tissues, adjust their shape, and increase their size. Contour intimate plastic surgery is used for:
- correction of the shape and size of the labia and clitoris;
- stimulation of vaginal secretion to moisturize tissues;
- increasing G-spot sensitivity;
- correction of age-related changes in the genital organs;
- changes in vaginal depth and volume;
However, this procedure also has a drawback - it is temporary. If undesirable changes in the genital organs are pronounced, repeated procedures are required to correct them.
Vaginal correction. Despite its elasticity and ability to restore its shape after severe expansion, this organ can be damaged in certain cases - for example, after childbirth or surgery. Common vaginal injuries include:
- sprains, tears and ptosis;
- the appearance of scars on the walls.
In these cases, vaginal correction is performed using one of the following techniques:
- vaginoplasty - this low-traumatic procedure consists of excision of a segment of the vagina and pulling adjacent muscles to the anus;
- reinforcement - this operation consists of implanting a synthetic material into the deformed vaginal wall, which acts as a frame;
- perineoplasty - it consists of introducing a bidirectional mesothread into the muscular layer of the vagina, it is characterized by minimal trauma, simplicity and a short rehabilitation period.
Vaginal correction is a relatively simple, effective and safe type of intimate surgery (plasty), which is suitable for women of any age. It does not deprive the patient of successfully conceiving and giving birth to a child naturally in the future.
Plastic surgery of the labia (labiaplasty). The shape and size of these organs can change due to age, sexual activity, childbirth, injury, etc. Some women also have congenital anomalies of the labia - their fusion, underdevelopment, or, conversely, excessively large size. You can adjust their shape in the following ways:
- surgical - in this case a wedge-shaped incision is made followed by stitching or linear excision of the contour of the labia;
- non-surgical - by injecting hyaluronic acid into the tissue.
Intimate labiaplasty surgery is performed in a hospital setting under local or general anesthesia. After a day, the patient is discharged, but for some time she must strictly follow the doctor’s recommendations until the injured tissue recovers.
Intimate plastic surgery of the clitoris. This organ contains a large number of nerve endings, which, when stimulated, cause sexual arousal and orgasm. Normally, the clitoris is the size of a pea, but in some women it is excessively large or, conversely, small. Accordingly, in the first case she experiences discomfort due to friction against clothes when moving, in the second - insufficient pleasure during sexual intercourse. To correct the size, shape and position of the clitoris, use:
- excision of excess tissue;
- removal of adhesions covering the clitoris;
- excision of surrounding tissue.
Due to the large number of blood vessels, the clitoris recovers relatively quickly after surgery. Thanks to it, a woman stops experiencing discomfort when moving and gets more pleasure from sex.
Artificial defloration. Normally, the hymen, which covers the entrance to the vagina, has holes through which menstrual blood leaves the woman’s body. During the first sexual intercourse, it stretches or tears - this process is called defloration. In some girls, the hymen does not have drainage holes and/or is thicker and denser. Because of this, they experience inflammation from the menstrual blood accumulating inside, and sexual intercourse becomes painful or even impossible. To solve these problems, artificial defloration is performed on an outpatient basis, which consists of surgical excision of the hymen. The operation is simple, performed within a few minutes and has a short recovery period.
Restoring virginity. This operation is the opposite of the previous one - that is, it consists of reconstructing the hymen. Often, women who have experienced sexual violence, who want to keep the fact of their first sexual contact secret or to diversify their intimate life, seek to see a surgeon for such intimate plastic surgery. There are 2 types of hymen restoration:
- Short term. It consists of stitching together the remains of the patient’s hymen with special absorbable threads. If the patient does not have sexual intercourse for several days, the suture will disintegrate on its own, destroying the reconstructed membrane.
- Long-term. This operation is performed even in cases where there are no remnants of the hymen left. The surgeon cuts out a small flap of mucous membrane from the posterior vaginal fornix, forms a hymen from it and attaches it with sutures along the edges of the vaginal os. The result is a full-fledged hymen, which will be destroyed only during subsequent sexual intercourse.
In both cases, restoring virginity is a fairly simple procedure, performed under local or general anesthesia, and the damaged tissue heals quickly.
Removal of fat in the pubic area. This operation is purely aesthetic in nature, since excess pubic fat is not a pathology, but can spoil the appearance of the intimate area. To remove it, the doctor first makes local injections that liquefy the fatty tissue. He then inserts cannulas (tubes) through small punctures in the skin, through which he sucks out the fat using a suction machine. If the patient subsequently experiences sagging skin in the “fat-free” area, the excess is excised and self-absorbing sutures are applied. As a rule, after surgery there are no noticeable marks left on the pubic area.

Many women hesitate for a long time before going for a consultation with a surgeon. In fact, if childbirth causes discomfort in the genital area or a decrease in the quality of sexual life, you can and should consult a doctor. A well-performed operation will help:
- normalize intimate relationships between spouses (it will become more pleasant for both the woman and her partner);
- get rid of tissue-deforming scars;
- eliminate the cause of prolapse of the vaginal walls and urinary incontinence;
- eliminate asymmetry or sagging of the labia minora;
- restore aesthetics to the intimate area.
The effect of the operations lasts for years, but with age the tissues lose their elasticity. This may cause old symptoms to reappear.
Modern surgery makes it possible to eliminate all the consequences of excessive stretching or tissue rupture during childbirth. Most operations do not require long-term rehabilitation and allow the woman to return to her normal life as quickly as possible.

What is the procedure for preparing for surgery?
Before surgery for plastic surgery of the vagina and perineum, a woman must undergo a series of medical examinations:
- general blood and urine tests,
- blood clotting ability is assessed,
- blood type, Rh factor,
- examinations for the presence of dangerous viruses transmitted through blood (HIV, serum hepatitis and others),
- bacteriological control of cervical smears,
- electrocardiogram,
- a therapist is consulted,
- It is necessary to consult an anesthesiologist to choose a method of pain relief.
After examination and the absence of contraindications (the occurrence of acute or exacerbation of chronic diseases, the presence of menstrual flow), the day of surgery is scheduled.
Stages of labiaplasty
Regional linear resection.
The incision runs along the entire surface of the lip, at a distance of 1-2 cm from the base and parallel to it. This type is well suited if the edge of the lip is flabby, pigmented, folded, as well as with elongation, hypertrophy, and asymmetry of the labia.
V-shaped resection (wedge-shaped).
A V or Z shaped piece of fabric is cut out and removed, with the seam running far from the legs of the clitoral hood. The advantages of the method allow you to preserve the natural folding of the edge of the lip. With this option, the hood is pulled tight and adjacent to the clitoris, which increases sexual sensations during sexual intercourse. It is not always possible to apply the technique due to the shape of the lip; it is not suitable if there is pigmentation.
Plasty of the clitoral hood.
In case of hypertrophy of the tissues of the intimate zone, plastic surgery of the lips must also be performed on the clitoral hood. Excess tissue completely covers the clitoris and reduces sexual sensations. During the procedure, the tissue in the fold of the hood is excised into petals and sutured. The hood decreases, the fabric rises upward, revealing the clitoris a little. As a result, combined plastic surgery looks very beautiful and harmonious, and improves intimate sensations.
Recovery
The gynecological operations and procedures described above do not require a long hospital stay. If no complications arise after the operation, the woman can go home the same day.
Depending on the severity of the operations, the sutures can heal from 3 to 10 days, but after labiaplasty they need to be treated every day until complete healing. More specific information can be obtained at a consultation with a gynecologist, since each body is individual and universal terms are only approximate figures.
However, during the rehabilitation period after intimate plastic surgery, it is important for every woman to adhere to several important rules:
- Maintaining intimate hygiene
It is necessary to monitor the cleanliness of the intimate area, preferably using special cosmetic gels. After correction of the clitoris, it is possible to use healing and anti-inflammatory ointments on the recommendation of a specialist.
- Comfortable underwear
After some operations, side effects are possible within 3-7 days such as a feeling of heaviness, swelling, pain in the lower abdomen, and discomfort when walking. To minimize discomfort, avoid tight-fitting synthetic underwear in favor of classic panties made from natural material.
- Limiting physical activity
In the first 3-5 days after the procedure, you should not sit for a long time. Within 1-1.5 months. After surgery, gynecologists recommend not lifting weights and not engaging in active sports and heavy physical labor in order to eliminate the risk of possible complications.
- Sexual rest
To speed up the healing of the labia and clitoris after surgery, you must abstain from sexual intercourse for 7 days. Depending on the complexity of the operation and the individual structure of the labia and clitoris, this period may be increased; the gynecologist who performed the procedure will be able to tell you more about this.
- Proper nutrition
During the rehabilitation period after intimate surgery, doctors completely prohibit alcohol and recommend abstaining from fatty and excessively salty foods.
