Face creams with glycerin - what they are for, benefits and harms. How to prepare and use at home. Video

Glycerin: composition

The element glycerol is a trihydric alcohol with the chemical formula C3H5(OH)3. The liquid consistency of glycerin characterizes its viscosity; the liquid is transparent and very hygroscopic.

It has a sweet taste and includes the following components:

  • Hydrogen – 8.756%.
  • Carbon – 39.125%.
  • Oxygen – 52.119%.

When making homemade creams, glycerin mixed with water allows you to achieve good skin hydration. To get the desired effect, you must choose pure distilled water for recipes.

It is also very useful to mix glycerin with other healing components that have a moisturizing effect, additional nutrition, etc.

Benefits of glycerin for facial skin

Glycerin has the following beneficial properties:

  1. Moisturizes. Thanks to its chemical composition, the liquid adsorbs moisture and attracts it to the skin.
  2. Eliminates age and expression wrinkles. Systematic use of glycerin-based creams helps get rid of dryness and eliminate dehydration. Glycerin will fill skin folds and wrinkles with adsorbed moisture, due to which the epidermis is smoothed.
  3. Whitens the skin, improves softness, gives a feeling of tenderness and velvety.
  4. Copes with some skin diseases. Thanks to the antiseptic properties of glycerin, it promotes wound healing, removes acne, and prevents the inflammatory process on the skin.
  5. Face cream with glycerin carefully creates a film on the upper layer of the epidermis, protecting the skin from dirt, dust and the negative effects of environmental factors.
  6. Cleanses the skin. Glycerin improves metabolic processes on the skin, eliminates dirt, dust, and grease.
  7. Nourishes and moisturizes the epidermis, fills cells with oxygen. Due to its ability to penetrate the epidermis, glycerin transports nutrients to the deep layers.

Due to its unique properties, glycerin is considered a panacea for age-related skin changes. Systematically using this component, the tissues are noticeably smoothed and tightened.

Impact on beauty

The main advantage of glycerin is its ability to absorb water molecules (it is a natural hydrant). The substance does not just retain moisture. It literally “absorbs” it from the surrounding air.

For example, if you open a container filled with glycerin and then place it next to a glass of water, the composition of this pharmaceutical product will change significantly! An increased content of life-giving moisture will be found in glycerin.

Another remarkable property is the ability to smooth the skin. Moisture penetrates even the slightest microcracks and facial folds, fills them and visually rejuvenates the face. Not only the superficial, but also the deep layers of the dermis are saturated with water.

Dry epidermis leads to visual aging. For this reason, timely replenishment of moisture in the intercellular space is one of the best methods of combating age-related changes.

Glycerin is included in many creams - it works great as a natural anti-aging agent. This chemical component can be found in industrial soaps intended for dry and very sensitive skin. It is also present in facial tonics and lotions.

Possible harm and contraindications

Despite the impressive list of healing properties, glycerin is a relatively specific substance that, if used incorrectly, can harm health and worsen the condition of the skin.

Adverse effects of glycerin:

  1. Draws out fluid from the deep layers of the epidermis. If the proportions in the manufacture of homemade creams are not observed, glycerin takes moisture from the skin, drying it out. Therefore, it is important to follow the instructions and recipe for use, and also carry out procedures in a room with high humidity.
  2. If the recipe for preparing face creams based on glycerin is not followed, a sticky film appears on the skin, which stimulates the formation of oily spots and tightness. Therefore, before leaving home, it is recommended to use glycerin cream minimally.
  3. Without following the application regimen, glycerin can lighten the skin too much by washing out melanin (natural pigment).

Contraindications to the use of glycerin:

  1. Face cream with glycerin for hypersensitive skin can become a problem - it can aggravate the course of skin diseases and cause the appearance of comedones.
  2. It is strictly not recommended to combine glycerin with silicone. This can cause burning, peeling, and itching.
  3. If you are hypersensitive to one of the components, cream with glycerin can provoke an allergic reaction, causing swelling and burning.

It is important to remember that in order to prevent any negative manifestations from homemade creams, it is necessary to apply the resulting composition to the crook of the elbow or wrist. And then observe the reaction for 15 minutes.

There is still debate about the beneficial and unfavorable properties of glycerin. When using it as a component of a homemade cream, you need to consider all the pros and cons.

Even when diluting glycerin with water and other ingredients, the cream should be used in rooms with humidity above 60%. Use glycerin with caution in hot weather and in heated rooms. In any self-prepared cream, the glycerin content should not exceed 7%.

Popular means

At home, a mixture of glycerin and vitamins is often used. For example, vitamin E - a pharmaceutical drug produced in capsules.

To make such masks, you should purchase a 25 ml bottle of glycerin and a package of 10 capsules of the mentioned vitamin at the pharmacy. The contents of the capsules are mixed with glycerin, and then the components are applied to a cleansed face. The procedure takes no more than 40-60 minutes. Then the mask is removed with a paper napkin. There is no need to wash your face after it!

Evening use is recommended. A pleasant result of regular use of this home remedy will be smooth and silky skin.

If there is no allergic reaction to ascorbic acid, it is possible to replace vitamin E with this component. And if you are sensitive to the drug and want to use vitamin C, you can purchase the pharmaceutical product “Aevit”.

To combat age-related aging of the skin and the appearance of wrinkles, various masks containing glycerin are used. This product must be applied to a clean face, left on the skin for the number of minutes specified in the recipe, and then washed off with water at room temperature.

The combination of honey and glycerin has a delicate cleansing and rejuvenating effect. This mask is suitable for all skin types except oily. Honey is taken in the amount of one teaspoon. Then glycerin is poured in and the mixture is stirred. Then additional components are added: 3 tablespoons of distilled water and a teaspoon of oatmeal.

Regardless of the amount of other components, the concentration of glycerin should not exceed the volume of one teaspoon. Failure to comply with the measure is fraught with dermatological problems.

Mask with gelatin

You can find Avon shower gel suitable for all family members here.

It is noteworthy that this mask is suitable not only for women with age-related problems, but also for teenagers. The skin will be perfectly moisturized, cleansed and nourished with useful substances (honey and oatmeal are rich in vitamins and microelements). In adult women, it will smooth out wrinkles, and problematic teenage skin will be noticeably cleaner.

For skin that has noticeably lost its elasticity, a mask with the addition of gelatin is perfect. In combination with glycerin, it helps smooth the skin and discolor pigment spots. Freckles will also “go away”.

Gelatin is taken in the amount of a tablespoon. The glycerin content in the mask is standard - no more than 1 teaspoon! Gelatin dissolves in three tablespoons of warm water. Then glycerin is added to the solution. The product stays on the skin for 20 minutes.

The main advantages of such a mask are improving skin color, stimulating blood circulation, and smoothing out facial wrinkles.

How to choose an industrial face cream with glycerin

When choosing a branded or inexpensive cream with glycerin, it is important to study its composition and pay attention to the glycerin content. Otherwise, the cream may cause excessive dryness and flaking of the skin.

If the amount of glycerin is not written on the label, you need to pay attention to its place in the list of ingredients. If it is at the very beginning of the list, its concentration is quite high. The closer to the end of the list glycerin is located, the lower its percentage in the cream.

When choosing a night or day cream, you should also pay attention to the amount of glycerin. For a nighttime formulation, glycerin should be kept to a minimum. This is due to the fact that in the dark the skin tries to get rid of excess toxins and waste, thus self-cleansing occurs.

Glycerin covers the skin with a film that blocks the release of harmful substances and excess moisture. Due to this, swelling and swelling may appear in the morning.

Action

In cosmetics from Western manufacturers there is another name for this substance - glycerol. It means glycerin obtained synthetically. The natural, safe component is isolated from fats, while the synthetic component is isolated in the laboratory by combining chemicals. Hence some differences in the effect on human skin. Domestic cosmetology does not make such a distinction, so confusion and confusion often arise.

Glycerin, or rather glycerol, is an absolutely safe substance. Creates a protective film on the surface of the skin that does not prevent the penetration of oxygen to cells, protects against adverse factors, and helps restore damaged areas of the epidermis. The beneficial qualities of glycerin cream are achieved due to the substance’s ability to draw moisture from the environment. Restoring lipid balance stimulates the production of important components - hyaluronic acid, elastin, collagen.

The difference in the action of synthetic glycerin is its ability to create an airtight film on the surface of the skin. The component does not release moisture from the cells and prevents the cover from drying out. Additionally attracts water atoms from the air. However, if there is insufficient moisture in the environment - less than 65%, glycerin begins to draw moisture from the lower layers of the dermis. The moisturizing effect is present, but superficial, temporary, and not safe. Natural processes in cells are disrupted, which threatens significant deterioration of the upper layer of the epidermis.

In this regard, it is worth clarifying what glycerin is used in the cream. Natural glycerol has a beneficial effect on the epidermis, while synthetic glycerol has a detrimental effect. When choosing the ideal moisturizer, cosmetologists recommend avoiding this component in the composition, meaning a synthetic product. However, provided there is high air humidity, there is no negative effect of glycerin on the skin.

Making hand care cream

Good day everyone!

A little background:) I thought for a long time whether to post master classes on cream making or not. Not because I’m lazy or sorry, but because when I myself started making creams a few years ago and searched, read, watched and studied information on this topic, I found a lot of master classes, articles, recipes, and so on. . And it seemed to me that those who post these recipes and master classes are simply super specialists and cream-making gurus. Now I understand how often master classes and recipes for various products posted on the Internet are ill-conceived, unbalanced, and often the products prepared according to them can harm the skin, rather than heal and rejuvenate it. And that’s why I am for a INTELLIGENT approach to cream making, as in everything else. I am writing this not to in any way discredit the publicly available master classes and cream recipes, but so that before you start doing anything, you think, delve into the process, and do not accept everything posted materials on faith. Before preparing anything according to any, even the most beautiful and high-quality master class, be sure to find information and read about EVERY component (especially about those unknown to you), do not trust blindly, because this is YOUR skin, YOUR health. In general, before you start making cosmetics with your own hands, you need to have an idea of the structure and functions of the skin in order to at least imagine what processes will occur when using your cream... Well, let’s finish the lyrical introduction and get down to business

The master class is designed for beginner cream makers, or for cream makers with little experience.

In this master class I will tell you how to make nourishing hand cream. I know that this is true for many craftswomen, especially for felters (I have clients among them, and I know that felters’ hands really need good care). I made the recipe simple and accessible, so I hope everything works out for you

Equipment:

  1. High precision scales (division price - 0.01g). There is no way to make cream without a scale. They are needed! You can buy inexpensive pocket jewelry scales; there is a large selection of them on the Internet. * For this recipe you can do without super-precise scales, an error of 1-2 grams is not so critical, since the hand cream and ingredients used are simple, but in more complex recipes scales are needed, since many components for preparing the cream need to be very precise measure, increasing/decreasing the dosage may have undesirable consequences.
  2. Fireproof measuring cups or cups for water and oil phases. You can buy such cups (as well as mortars, beakers, spatulas, pipettes, etc.) at a laboratory store that sells laboratory glassware. For example, in Labtech. * For this recipe, we only need 2 porcelain or glass fireproof cups or cups (you can use stainless steel cups).
  3. Stainless steel teaspoon, glass rod or steel spatula. Why is it advisable to use steel or glass instruments? Because glass and stainless steel are inert materials and will not interact with the components for preparing the cream.
  4. Medical syringes for 2 and 10 ml. These syringes (without needles, of course) are very convenient for measuring out the active ingredients of the cream and preservatives. In addition, the syringes are completely sterile.
  5. Mini mixer (cappuccino maker). You can also use a regular mixer (which is what I use in this master class), removing 1 whisk, if you have a small mixer, for example, like this one.
  6. Jar for the finished cream. You can take any jar, for example from used cream or baby food.

IMPORTANT! All listed equipment and the workplace (table) must be thoroughly washed and disinfected before starting work! And of course, don’t forget about your hands, you need to treat them with a disinfectant liquid, and ideally, put on latex gloves and a sterile mask, and pin up your hair.

How to do this (there are many options - I will list a few available):

1. Medical alcohol. One BUT - it is difficult to get it without a prescription.

2. Hydrogen peroxide. It also disinfects well and is much easier to get.

3. Chlorhexidine. Suitable for treating the desktop, hands, wiping sticks and spatulas while working.

We are making a recipe for the cream: we will prepare 100 grams of cream, that is, we calculate everything from this weight. 100 grams - 100%.

F (fat or oil phase) - this includes oils and an emulsifier (if it is fat-soluble) - 35%

WF (aqueous phase) - this includes water and hydrolates, we have 40% water and 18% hydrolates, total - 58%

AF (active phase) - for us it is glycerin, NUF, chamomile essential oil, rosemary extract (we will not count chamomile EO and rosemary extract in the recipe, since we add them drop by drop, that is, it is approximately 0.01-0.05 % and it will be very difficult for us to measure them accurately) - only 6%

Preservative - we take the percentage indicated by the manufacturer, for the preservative used it is 0.6 - 1%, I take 1%

We check: 35% ZhF + 58% VF + 6% AF + 1% preservative = 100% * Usually, when drawing up a recipe, the fatty and active phases are first calculated, and the water phase is adjusted to 100%.

Ingredients for preparation:

1. Shea butter (karite) : fights flaking, moisturizes, restores skin

2. Sesame oil: thanks to its large amount of essential fatty acids, quickly restores the damaged lipid barrier, thereby soothing dry, flaky and irritated skin

3. Emu oil (fat): the best protective and softening component. In terms of the content of valuable Omega-3 and Omega-6 acids, Emu oil is not inferior to fish oil. The oil is quickly absorbed and penetrates into the deep layers of the skin. The oil stimulates regeneration processes and protects the skin from the negative effects of environmental factors. Alternatively, you can use mink oil or marmot fat.

3. Beeswax (you can use rice, apple or other wax)

4. Distilled water (you can take good bottled water without gas)

5. Chamomile or lavender hydrolate: has antibacterial properties, regenerates damaged, thinned, inflamed, irritated skin

6. NMF (natural moisturizing factor): a patented complex of hygroscopic moisturizing substances, adapted to the water-binding capacity of human skin. Contains ingredients similar to Natural Moisturizing Factors (mono- and disaccharides, amino acids). *At first, you can do without this component.

7. Vegetable glycerin: softens and moisturizes the skin

8. Rosemary CO2 Extract: The Strongest Antioxidant

9. Chamomile essential oil - optional (can be made without essential oils)

10. Preservative (I use Cosgard (INCI: Benzyl alcohol, Dehydroacetic acid, aqua), you can take another preservative and administer it in the dosage stated by the manufacturer)

11. Tego Care Emulsifier: a natural emulsifier entirely from plant materials that forms stable emulsions in the pH range of 4.5-8.0. Being a natural emulsifier, it is recommended for cosmetics for face and body care, and is interesting to use for children's cosmetics. Other emulsifiers can be used, for example OLIVEM 1000 .

Preparation of cream:

So we prepared the workplace and got ready: all the tools were treated with alcohol, surfaces were also disinfected, we were in a good mood

Next, take a fireproof cup and measure out the required amount of emulsifier; for 100 grams of the planned cream, we have 4% emulsifier, that is, 4 grams:

Then we measure out the rest of the fatty phase, these are wax and oils.

We take 1% wax, that is, 1 gram, I got a little more - 1.2 grams

Add Emu oil - 7%, that is 7 grams

Sesame oil. We take it 15% - 15 grams

And handmade Shea butter – 8%, 8 grams

Now we measure out the aqueous phase, 40% water and 18% hydrolates (9% lavender and 9% chamomile) - 58%, that is, 58 grams. Only water can be used.

Now we put both phases in a water bath

Add CO2 rosemary extract to the fatty phase on the tip of a glass rod - it will serve as an antioxidant and will prevent the oils from oxidizing during heating

Prepare a mini mixer or just a small mixer, disinfect the whisk

When both phases are ready, that is, the fatty phase has completely melted and become transparent, remove them from the water bath

Pour the oil phase into the water phase (since we use a “direct” emulsifier, more details here https://www.livemaster.ru/topic/94638-vidy-kosmeticheskih-emulsij?vr=1&inside=0)

Emulsify. That is, we plunge the mixer whisk to the bottom and beat at maximum speed for 30 seconds.

Then reduce the speed to minimum and stir for 5-7 minutes. You can stir with a glass rod so as not to force unnecessary air into the cream. We get a white, beautiful, homogeneous emulsion

Cool the emulsion to approximately 45-40 degrees to introduce the active components.

We pre-measure the active components: NUF - 3%, 3 grams

Glycerin - 3%, 3 grams

Preservative – 1%, 1 gram

Now that the emulsion has cooled, add the active phase and mix with a mixer

Add 3-4 drops of chamomile essential oil to the finished cream.

Mix again and place the finished cream in a jar that has been previously disinfected

Well, now we use the cream for its intended purpose and have fun!

I will be glad to have any questions, comments and wishes. If you are interested, I can do other master classes. Write what you would like to see and learn. Possibly in a private message. Thanks to all!

With gelatin and salicylic acid

Gelatin, together with salicylic acid, provides additional softness and elasticity to the facial skin; the components effectively smooth out wrinkles and eliminate defects.

For independent use you will need the following components:

  • Gelatin – 5 g.
  • Mineral water – 1/2 cup.
  • Honey – 15 g.
  • Glycerin – 125 ml.
  • Salicylic acid – 1 g.

Pour mineral water into gelatin in a porcelain bowl and leave to swell for 30 minutes. Then, gradually stirring over low heat, bring the mixture to a uniform consistency. To prepare it, strain the gelatin through a fine strainer.

Cool the mixture and pour honey into it, stirring constantly, leave for at least 45-60 minutes. Pour in glycerin in a thin stream while stirring thoroughly, and 2 tbsp. l. water.

Without stopping stirring, add salicylic acid (if you don’t have concentrated acid, crush 1 aspirin tablet). Beat the finished mixture thoroughly with a whisk or in a mixer. Use the mixture three times a day, apply the cream in a thick layer. This will help lighten the skin, remove wrinkles and minor defects.

From glycerin and hydrogen peroxide

Glycerin together with peroxide is effectively used before applying a scrub, since the cream perfectly cleanses the skin and opens pores.

To prepare the cream you need to prepare:

  • Glycerin – 1 tsp.
  • Hydrogen peroxide – 1 tsp.

  • Beeswax – 2 tbsp. l.
  • Grape oil – 1 tsp.

To prepare, mix glycerin and peroxide in equal parts, add beeswax and grape oil. Apply to pre-steamed skin once a day at night. Rinse off. Procedures should be carried out once every 3 days. The product softens the skin; after systematic use, the epidermis becomes velvety, soft, and wrinkles are smoothed out.

With vitamin E

You can improve the effectiveness of a cream with glycerin by adding vitamin E to it. This product will refresh the skin, smooth out wrinkles, and add smoothness to the skin. It will also moisturize and nourish it.

To do this, you need to prepare the following substances:

  • Glycerin – 1 tbsp. l.
  • Vitamin E - 1 tbsp. l.

Combine all prepared ingredients in one container and grind thoroughly. If the cream is to be applied in the cold season or in a cool room, it is recommended to add 1/2 tsp. distilled water.

The most popular face cream is glycerin with vitamin E.

The cream should be applied to a face free of dust and cosmetics, left for an hour, remove excess with a damp cloth or rinse with water. It is better to reduce the time of the first procedure to 40 minutes. After it, it is better to apply a tonic lotion. Repeat the procedure 4 times a week for 21 days. Then take a break for 1-2 weeks and repeat cosmetic procedures.

Many girls do not appreciate the full impact of homemade creams containing glycerin, since they use them for a short time.
